You're wrong. I understand criticisms of his meandering style-- though I wonder why they were fans in the first place-- but he knows where he's going. The showrunners are just making stupid choices.

And I agree with Jello. Gurm is definitely implying the show ending wasn't his.

My take on what he said is that what happened to the babies was never going to be revealed in the books. It could be true (Craster's wives believe that's what happens) but maybe not. The show runners took what the wives said in the one scene and ran with it. Probably without talking to GRRM first.

Has anyone watched the "Inside the Episode"? D&D talk anout being influenced by horror movies of the 70s and 80s, how they made the monsters scarier by not showing much of them (Jaws and Aliens come to mind). D&D really emphasize that. And then show far more of the Others than means necessary by any measure.

    Okaaay ...

    Trouble's brewing in Mereen.

GrandAdmiralJello, you mentioned Bran gets captured by a group of deserters from the Night's Watch in "Oathkeeper." Is this the same group that Coldhands slaughters in ADWD Bran I? If so, I agree that the whole storyline being changed in the show is stupid.

The fate of those who murdered Mormont is left ambiguous in the books. Bran never encounters any NW personnel other than Sam.

Considering that those who fled back to the Wall were being harassed by Others and wights, I think the fate of those at Craster's was implied.

Well, it's more than implied that at least some of them are killed by Coldhands in ADWD.

Yeah, pretty sure that they all got killed by CH after they left the keep.

I know the books are not the same as the TV series, but shouldn't this character "Coldhands" have appeared by now?

See, I thought that Coldhands killed the wildling survivors of the siege on the Wall. The wildlings broke after Stannis arrived and some of the survivors fled into the wilderness. Varamyr was one of them.

Damn, it was a short passage so I don't remember if they were Wildlings or wights or Night's Watch.

EDIT: The wiki says they were indeed the mutineers. Huh.

The book itself doesn't say who they are (Bran doesn't know the mutineers, after all) but they were clear NW by their clothing.

As for Coldhands, this would be their last chance to bring him in on the show, but I doubt they will. Didn't one of the actors even confirm that CH was dropped?

    From the GoT thread:

Episode didn't have much. Still not entirely sure what the point of Locke was. Yeah he managed to make Bran and Jon miss each other (with a timely assist from Jojen), but they could have found other ways to do that. I also felt bad for Hodor, when he was looking down at his bloody hands. Poor guy.

Oh also the Hound making fun of Syrio was hilarious. As was Brienne and Pod. Jon was pretty badass this episode. Kit's been knocking it out of the park this season.

The prime way to have made Bran and Jon miss one another is not to have contrived that stupid almost-encounter in the first place.

Not sure calling the writers/show people D&D in a thread about fantasy novels is the best use of the acronym...

Anyway, guess we'll see Braavos next episode. Finally. The map sequence has been getting pretty stale. There's never been this little change over a long number of episodes. But they're hitting the point in the story where nothing happens ( at least for a few characters) and in the plot lines where things do happen, they invent things to make it boring instead.

Summer Dreamer's quoted comment is hilarious. I'd have replied to him with something like "sweet summer child."

And the Lannister mines being dry are silly. The implication is that they have no money ( which is scarce credible, both for practical and narrative reasons ) and that the IB is crucial. The show is setting up the Stannis plot with basically no subtlety at all. Par for the course.
