if some e-mail accounts can check what you have just typed for you, why not a message board?

this would be alot better than editing a single word right? i mean the EDIT button is to add different thoughts right? but not to fix misspellings right? why should we have to travel off site to know how to spell something right? yeah, sure most should already know how to spell it right the first time, but what about those who just type really fast and get typos?

yes, i am sure most people will not use it but still it would be nice to have the option. with all the other stuff we have options for its amazing we don't have a spell check.

Eye dont no who oui have darn without it four ally these thyme.

Because obviously a spell checker would have been great right about now. Woulda really helped me get my pont across.

Uhhh, its for editing. What reason is up to the need of the individual at the time.

why should we have to travel off site to know how to spell something right?

Not hard to open up a word processor and use a spellcheck there. Really not hard at all.

but what about those who just type really fast and get typos?

Then look at your posts before you post it. Or use the edit button after.

Not to say a spellcheck isnt a nice function to have. And given zerosleep has a veritable treasure trove of changes on their way, its entirely possible that we will get one.

But its nothing imperative. A luxury, not a necessity.

If I write anything long, I always copy it to Microsoft Word to find out if I have spelled everything correctly. It would be nice to have a spell checker, but it isn't the most important thing right now. :)

What would really help is people slowing down when they post and taking the time to make sure what they're posting is right. Instead of simply posting as fast as they can and complaining about the one minute rule.

Spell checks hate Star Wars. Why would we want one here? :p

Yeah, with a SW site half the things said would be called wrong when they're actually right... you'd have to not only have a spell checker (or speel cheeker :p) but add a ton of words to the dictionary it uses, and you still probabaly wouldnt get half of the ones needed. If you really want one, use MS Word or something else that has a spell checker :)

Yeah...a spell checker would be nice. But nothing beats a good education in learning how to spell. I'm really bad at spelling (getting better though) and even I'll admit that!

If someone can't spell, I'd like to know it. I'd hate to see some illiterate fool get modded.

Despite the fact that the individual might just be someone to whom English is a second language, not an "illiterate fool," I still have to say, that's probably the smartest thing said yet.

Because as was said, this site is international, and a lot of members have trouble with English.

It would be a nice feature, and maybe after some more essential stuff gets done it could be implemented, but it's definitely a luxury when compared to some other changes the boards could use. I guess if you were really interested in spelling correctly, you could program all the major Star Wars names (including EU ones) into your word processor's dictionary and try there.

Also, remember that if this site had a spell checker, we'd also need a custom dictionary, and a very extensive one if it had to recognize all the proper names used in the various forums here. Would someone have to keep updating it to reflect new additions to the Star Wars universe from every book that came out - every new bit of Episode 3 information - every new member joining?
