MSN Messenger - Fast, Reliable & no where near as intrusive as ICQ

u need to setup a hotmail address to use it tho

    www.hotmail.com

once that is done go 2 the following link to download messenger (only bout 1mb)

    http://messenger.ninemsn.com.au/

alternatively if anyone likes IRC - I can set up a channel for OR

Hey, couldn't hurt! I'm downloading it now; might be a good idea to go ahead and set up an IRC room anyway, it couldn't hurt to have multiple net apps available to the club.

I've already tried messenger except now I have a damn firewall in place at work I can't use it anymore, but before that I found it a great way of chatting.
On that note, isn't it weird that we use the term "chat" rather than "talk" when discussing on-line conversation. I always thought of chat as an antiquated term, and yet, here it is, alive and well on the most technological of mediums.
    Oh well

Okay, my MS Messenger is up and running, I've already got Chiron and one of my cousins (!) listed. All Outer Rimmers and confirmed relatives of blood or marriage are welcome.

I'd rather stick with ICQ. I'm not too fond of the other messaging programs I've tried (especially the ones that insist on signing up for something like Hotmail the way MSN does). I don't really want to have half a dozen different messaging accounts to check.

Actually, it's not bad at all; I used it tonight with Grizzly, Leia and someone called Muldz, when Grizz's ICQ was giving him fits. Messenger held up a 4-way convo quite nicely!

And a Hotmail account is a piece of cake to set up; you want me to set one up for you? You'd never even have to check it, and you only need it so you can enter the user name and password into MSN Messenger; besides, it's still FREE, and unlike ICQ, you don't have to upgrade it every 6 months to keep up with everybody else.

And if we're gonna have net chats (given attendance of late, it might be absolutely essential), we've gotta try for some uniformity so that nobody gets left out!

Just one more thing bout MSN, its good cause it hasn't been overloaded by geewizz bloated crap ... YET - periodically a new version will come out and it will ask if u wanna upgrade - dont bother, leave it the way it is

"If it aint broke dont fix it"

and Ethane - The latest version works quite well behind a firewall

ICQ is heaps better than MSN Messenger. Everyone has ICQ these days. Not everyone has a Hotmail account and i'm not going to get one just to use MSN Messenger.
