    So...

I watched Attack of the Clones today for the first time in years. I decided quite a while ago that the PT was not for me... That being said, I always maintained that The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were good films that just needed some scenes chopped and some cgi fixed up  This is all just my opinion so don't get offended!

I actually think Attack of the Clones COULD be the best Star Wars film of the lot if some of the above mentioned was fixed...

So... One of the scenes I could never get over was the Yoda vs Dooku fight. Yoda jumping around like a frog on steroids kills me. Today I watched that scene and something struck me that I had never thought about. When Dooku blasts Yoda with lightning he initially deflects it, but then the second time he absorbs it! In my own mind I decided that Yoda instantly gets this crazy amount of energy for the 5 or so minutes they fight - But then he goes back to the old/weakened state we usually see!! I realise that everyone will say that he is putting on an act because he is extremely powerful...but does this work for anyone else?? And is there presedence for this? Anakin and Luke get attacked with it - so they are rolling around on the ground in excruciating pain where as Yoda absorbs it. (Obi Wan blocks it with his lightsaber)

In short - Does Yoda gain immense power through absorbing the lightning?

    Thoughts?

In my mind the scene now works much better for me!!

It's more or less contradicted by ROTS, where Yoda doesn't need to absorb any lightning for his powers to manifest.

I mean, what Yoda does is no different to any of the other Jedi.

I only saw ROTS once... Doesn't he absorb the lightning from Palpatine before going all frog again? Or does he just get blasted with it?

As far as other Jedi - Yoda is very old. 870 or so at the time of AOTC's... And a mere 20 or so years later he can barely walk.

He does some flips before going to Palpatine, when beheading his clone escort, and fighting outside the Jedi temple.

I remember reading some BTS material in which, when it was decided Yoda would be in a lightsaber duel with Count Dracula Dooku, there was sort of a debate over how he should fight, and it was George's idea to have him wear vampire fangs leaping around like a frog

Only thing I don't like about that duel, awesome as it is, is Yoda's screaming and grunting noises are a bit.... odd. And he certainly does not do the same in ROTS

Yoda stopped grunting because between AOTC & ROTS he stopped playing tennis (in which they grunt) & picked up volleyball in which they don't grunt.

It's an interesting thought Avnar, but unfortunately it doesn't quite hold up in ROTS, as others have pointed out. Still neat, though.

Yoda can pinball because he's a ******* Jedi Master, and the Force is his ally.

Yoda lets out a battle cry, a Bruce Lee kung fu noise, because it's a real fight, not an exhibition, and a Jedi feels the Force flowing through them.

I think the idea is that when in combat Yoda uses the Force to overcome his physical ailments and when he's not he stops doing so and is like any other 800 year old being. The explanation works for me.

Hey Avnar, glad you gave the PT another try!

That's an interesting theory. Personally I don't buy it but there's nothing in the film that contradicts it. So do you propose in ROTS then that he let Sidious zap him?

Interesting idea, Avnar. I still think that those jumps are part of the same “make the impossible possible“ thing that we see in OT. In TESB Yoda could deal with a starfighter and make some random jumps is simpler, I think. For me the amazing thing is that after the fight Yoda just takes his walking stick and again becomes the grumpy old frog ;)
But generally I appreciate more their ‘mind‘ fight, not the duel itself. This between Dooku and Anakin is much more interesting.
