In passing, if the concern is about Mazarun seeming to have brought this on the party, well, no: bear in mind Gameplay and Story Segregation.

Basically, Zanaek cast Commune, which does give you straight answers from a deity. The mechanics worked out like this:

1: Did Mazarun succeed in killing Kharn?
2a: (If yes to 1) Has Mazarun's actions benefitted the defenders of Brindol?
2b: (If no to 1) Was Kharn killed and then resurrected?

    1. Yes. (Literally true without being misleading. Mazarun did get Kharn past the "mostly dead" state that Miracle Max has more success with :D
    2. No.

3: Is the situation worse for the Brindol defenders than it was before Kharn's death?
4: Has the Red Hand acquired a new Wrymlord to replace Kharn?

    3. Yes.
    4. No. Kharn is still Wyrmlord.

5: If Kharn is still Wyrmlord, then has he been resurrected?

    5. No.

    6. Has Kharn been raised?
    7. Is he a powerful undead?
    8. More powerful than a Lich?

    6. Yes.
    7. Yes.
    8. Perhaps. (That's a bit tough to answer because it depends on the character underlying the template. A level 20 character who becomes a death knight is going to be more powerful than a level 12 character who becomes a lich, and vice versa.)

    9: Is he a Lich?
    10: Is he a Wraith?
    11: Is he a Vampire?
12: Is he a Death Knight?
13: Has he begun calling the Ghostlord's undead followers to him?

    9 - 11: No.
    12: Yes.
13: No. They are forever destroyed.

14: Are there any undead within range for him to summon to his side?

    14. Maybe.

    15: Is he summoning them?

    15. No.

16: Does he intend to summon them?

    16. Unknown.

18: Did the Red Hand clerics raise Kharn as a Death Knight?
19a (if Yes): Are any of these clerics more powerful than the most powerful cleric in Brindol?
19b (if No): Was Kharn raised as punishment for the actions of those within the Company?

    18. Not without help from ... Another.
    19. No, Kharn was not raised as a punishment.

20: Did the clerics intend for Kharn to be raised as a Death Knight?
21: Can Kharn be destroyed before his army reaches Brindol?

    20. No. It was desperation responsible.
    21. Yes. (But then that's only a query about whether it's possible, not whether the Company can do it.

Mitth and I wanted to put it in a little more interesting form, since Q&A is ... kind of boring. Hence what you got - it was my feeling that gods answer more in images than in explicit words as such, so this list may explain some of the text. Didn't mean to perturb anyone... :)

Not to worry, Saint. Just poking a little fun at that seemingly ever-present godly habit of answering in riddles. :p

Where's the obligatory level 500 Faerunian NPC when you need it?

    "Here, go do this quest."

    "Kay."

"You might piss off all the evil."

"That sounds bad. You sure maybe you shouldn't-"

    "Laters!"

All right, guys, I believe it's time.

If you have any last-minute changes to make to your spells, I'd make them (which reminds me, Rils, Mazarun still has to specify what spells he's using and what maneuvers he's got prepared.)

Update goes up in a couple of minutes, and here ... we ... ... go ...

It's up. I've left where exactly you guys are when the bombardment begins up to you, though you'll note you've been spread out across Brindol to try and buttress morale before the bloodletting starts. Feel free to post reactions, etc. and then we'll get into it I'd say in the next 2-3 days.

You'll also note I've changed my sig and my avatar to very strongly advertise/represent this RPG wherever else I wander on the boards. There's a simple reason for that: we've been doing this five years, and I'm heart-burstingly proud of all of you and what we've all achieved thus far. Let's make this a really fun ride KICKASS RIDE!

Well, even low-light vision is going to be good enough, otherwise the giants couldn't see well enough to aim.

Fine by me, Ramza. Just don't bring Corporal Nobbs into Faerun, that's all I ask :D :D

EDIT: Unless hilarity demands it, of course.

EDIT THE SECOND: Oh, hell, bring Nobby into Faerun. Evelios will make it awesome. :D

EDIT THE THIRD, "THE BLACK PRINCE": Er, how bout I just say yes and leave it all to you. :D

Discworld in our ToF? I don't know what to say to that...

AW HELL YEAH DO IT DO IT DO IT

(You gotta admit, it's more original than Monty Python... not that that isn't a timeworn classic :p )

Seriously, though, while I've read and am reading some Discworld, I haven't read any of the City Watch books yet, so I couldn't write a good Nobbs if I wanted to.

No, I have something else in mind. *Completely unwarranted sinister laughter*

While we're doing this, I'd just like to note I had a riddle saved up, one I made up all on my own. It was for Mazarun to give to Alandri, in case we needed any kind of 'bribe' to convince the wizard Alandri works for to help us.
I don't want to waste that riddle, so here it is:

    "I burn without burning,
    My touch is a sight,
    They use me most
    Who need not my light."

I look forward to seeing if (especially) Saintheart can guess the answer.:p
If not, then I guess the riddle will have been a right treat!

I started with a magnifying glass or perhaps a spyglass; it burns without burning itself; you can see things through it ... but ... hmmmm ... meditate on this, I will.

EDIT: Or perhaps the Sun? No, the Sun burns... hrrrrmmmmm....

    Hmmm

A flame or something like a flame,
    It is impressive
    Often used
    But not for lighting purposes.
