A Video Game For Mature Players? Playboy:The Mansion . . .

Thanks Jay_Adan. This game sounds pretty cool! I do, however, have some questions about the game:

Can my character have sex with the playmates? If not, can my character at least smack them around a bit? Can I ban Leonardo DiCaprio from the mansion? Oh, and how much nudity is in the game, precisely?

It's a possibility. That is, if you've built up a strong romantic relationship with one of them and she's into it then, yes.

I know that you're probably joking, but I find the remark to be pretty offensive. Seriously.

You can eject any guests from the mansion at any time.

I can't tell you precisely until the game has had a chance to be run by the ESRB for its rating. Topless nudity, sure. More than that? Don't know yet. Sexual themes? Absolutely.

 

The game looks and sounds lame. The Sims was bad enough.

 

If you don't like the Sims then there's a decent chance that you won't like this game. We have tried to avoid some of the things that we didn't like about that gameplay ourselves though. For example, you're never going to pee on the floor because you didn't have time to get to the bathroom. You'll never die in a tragic kitchen fire. Your mansion will never become infested with flies...

 

House odds on this game gonna be the target of fundamentalists if and when it comes out?

Why don't it just have TOTAL Nudity, and girls All look very photo-realistic, and rate it A?

 

If a company thinks something will sell and they want to make it I have no problem with that..

My problems are with the rating. It should be clear on the box exactly what is in the game and the rating should reflect that. I cringe at comments that claim companies are working with the ratings board to try and get a more favorable rating or such. Those kinds of things bug me. Ratings should be clear..

Just an M on the box doesn't cut it. Most games give a word or two as to why the game got an M. something like "Graphic Violence" or something. But I think more description as to why it's rated a certain way is needed.

I see a big difference between Graphic Violence in Resident Evil over Graphic Violence in Vice City. Exploding zombie heads is on a whole different level in my mind than picking up hookers to gain health points and then beating the heck out of them to get your money back.


As a parent I should be able to tell from the description on the box exactly what is in the game. I shouldn't have to sit with my kid while he plays or play a game first to know. It should all be there in black and white.

I play games and read up on the ones my son wants to play before I let him. GTA is not allowed. Stealing Cars and beating up Hookers just isn't something I want my boy pretending he's doing.

I don't mind reading up on games because they interest me and I find many games I want to play that way. I am not your average parent though. Most parents are not into games and they shouldn't have to play them to safe guard the kids. Companies can use the "it's the parents responsibility" line to cover their butts and I agree the buck should stop at the Parents but is it really so hard to help parents by being up front and honest about what is in a game?

I know people want to get the M rating so all the stores will put it on the shelf. Changing your game to get the M rating is fine... Trying to get the ratings board to allow more under an M rating isn't.

Grand Theft Auto didn't say anything about picking up and beating up hookers in the game did it? That's a bit beyond what one would think when it's just flagged for "Violence"


I'd like to see a better rating system. Problem is if they give a game an "A" rating no place will sell or rent it. so this makes them try and fit everything under the M rating and that?s where I have issues. The "M" Rating will become useless to Parents if it covers everything from Survival Horror to Soft Porn.

 

I would think this game would get the Adults Only tag. I mean Playboy may do more than just Photo Shoots in their magazines, but they're not marketing it to younger audiences, because it was built on skin. Same deal should go with the game.

So I'm looking at the ESRB ratings and content descriptions in the link previously posted, and I simply don't understand why there is any debate left. These content descriptions are extraordinarily clear -- almost verbose.

And now I'm looking at the ratings for the most recent Grand Theft Auto. It includes "strong sexual content".

It seems like video games are being monitored even more closely for content than the MPAA scrutinizes movies. Personally, I think more focus should be put on criticizing a game like Grand Theft Auto (which, to my understanding, is all about going out and committing crimes) than a comparatively tame nude photoshoot game.

I have to wonder why they make an Adults Only tag then. But since they make it, and selling pornography to people underage is illegal (isn't it?), then the game should get it because it has "Topless nudity".

MATURE
Titles rated M - Mature have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain mature sexual themes, more intense violence and/or strong language.


I think that the difference (at least in these descriptions) lies in the "graphic depictions of sex and/or violence versus "may contain mature sexual themes."

Nudity isn't specifically mentioned in either. I believe that this is because the specifics of what gets what rating depends a lot upon its context.

 

Any more news on this, like a release date?

TV had some snapshots from E3, but that was a while ago.

As you know from my earilier posts (I know you are reading them), I wanna see more adult games. But I think this one is just gonna be a Sims clone and nothing new.

 

According to IGN, the release date has been pushed back to January 25th of next year. To be perfectly honest, I'm not really looking forward to this game due to the reasons you just stated, about it being a Sims clone and all, which IGN has pretty much confirmed in one of it's previews of the game:

In a nutshell, Playboy: The Mansion is like The Sims, but it has sex and sexuality and doesn't have you waking up Hef at four in the morning to mop up the bathroom floor, repair the sink, put out the microwave fire, and make breakfast for the family.
