Mmm, okay. Try to keep those in our social thread in the future, though.

Boba it might not be a bad idea to edit the thread title slightly to make it clear this is an Ep 7 SCORE news and speculation thread...

Since it's highly doubtful williams would be able to score all 3, I'd rather he not score any of this next trilogy. It's a new trilogy, with a new driving force, no pun intended. Lucas's input and influence will not be what it was or the final decision regarding story, etc, and I think it's time to pass the baton for the music. As for who does it, and how the heck you follow John Williams...good luck. His music IS Star Wars. I can picture star wars without Lucas in the same role he's had for the other movies, I can't even imagine star wars without Williams. It will be interesting.

He may well be able to do all three (it would be a push). Personally, I'd like him to work with an understudy. The understudy could do a lot of the incidental music and allow Williams to compose one or two new big themes. At any point during the ST production, for any reason, Williams would then be able to step aside, with the understudy (or dare I say "apprentice") continuing on their own to score however much is left. Williams doesn't even have to conduct. He can play an advisory role during the recording(s). For me, this is the ideal way to go.

As long as its not Hans Zimmer. As much as I love the guy, I don't think his music is quite suited to Star Wars.

I heard a Boston Pops concert broadcast last weekend with JW conducting. He talked to the audience briefly about composing the original score, not knowing that there would be a sequel, let alone five, and now that there will be another one, he needs to watch his diet and eat lots of Wheaties. The audience cheered. Loudly. :)

I figured he was going to, but yeah, it's great news. Had a mild fear we'd have to deal with Zimmer for films I like again...I've tried and tried to like his Batman scores, but the only cue that ever really stood out for me was the car chase from Begins and the Joker's theme from TDK.

Hans Zimmer will never come within 100 feet of a Star Wars score.

Never thought he'd come within 100 feet of scoring a Superman score, either :p

Well, Star Wars is not being rebooted. Man of Steel was a total reboot. And that score was terrible.

I remember that it actively distracted me from the film with its ridiculously over the top bombastic drums.

So...given (a large amount of assumption) that Luke is going to be in this film and also older...maybe we'll see a more "mature" theme for him?

Edit: just to get some speculation going...feeling nostalgic for when we took wild guesses at music for the prequels :p
