What will the canon defenders say about them introducing A-Wings in Rebels for some reason and also having them in EP VIII (like 45 years later)?

In my 'head cannon' the A-wings were introduced around RotJ... so it makes sense that the remnants of the New Republic would still use them... while the Resistance continues with outdated X-Wings.

    Prince William is Plaguies!

Anyone remember the Uglies from what's now Legends? X-Ties, Y-Ties, X-ceptors?

Can't see anyone being bothered by new-model A-Wings.

Something like an A Wing Mark VIII, compared to the Rebels A Wings being, say, Mark I.

Or the Deathseed - which, while starting out as an Ugly, ended up as a standard design.

It looked a lot like that - but, the wings were in a gyroscopic mount, so rotated about the ball cockpit, like the B-wing or the Mandalorian Fang-class fighter from Rebels.

Actually they were the same design, the OT ones were sans the CW bodywork.

The OT ones are a lot shorter - enough that the bodywork might not be the only factor. They also seem to lack a space where the manned turret would go, or have been removed from.

OT Y-wings are 16m long. TCW Y-wings are 23.4m long

Yeah so it stands to reason that they would not just reuse ships but rather have old versions of newer models. So there may have been a few models of A-Wing over the years and the resistance is using one from the intermediate time from Ep 6 to Ep 7. Not the newest but one newer then the ROTJ version.

In all honesty, I think it might be because you hardly ever see A-Wings in ROTJ. Now, if they gave us a B-Wing I would die a happy man.

I christen this version the A+ wing.

Looks sleeker, and the cowling extending behind the cockpit is gone.

Interesting factoid. Poe's mother was an A-Wing pilot.

Uhm, hate to tell you, but I think you missed Leia's ship. ;)

And as much as I loved seeing X-wings again, my favorite ship to fly in the old X-wing game was the A-wing. Those suckers are fast!

The Resistance Troop transport apparently uses the modified cockpit of a MkII (I think?) B-Wing, so fingers crossed we'll get to see a whole one... I'd have preferred to see that over an A-Wing to be totally honest!

Wouldn't mind seeing some new TIEs for that matter...

Wasn't the 2-man fighter that Poe and Finn flew a new Tie fighter?

We've already seen some very unique (and sleek) landspeeder designs (as well as set and costume designs) from the Dubrovnik shoot, all of which seem quite distinct from the OT. And yet one photo of a familiar A-Wing surfaces, and we get an immediate flurry of concerns about old ships.

The Episode VIII conversation here is getting pretty tedious. Think it's probably best to shift gears to Rogue One.

If they've got him there, stick a helmet on Harry. Get him to say "Gold Leader to Red Five..." or whatever. A few bits of random pilot chatter.
