Since I can't find anything on these boards about it and I know it's not allowed on fanfiction.net, I must ask, am I allowed to MST one of my fics and post it here?

    MST?

Am I correct in assuming that stands for Mystery Science Theater?

I don't know what it stands for, but isn't it when you type up a part of a published book inserting your own bits, comments, etc., in-between?

Or am I thinking of something else?

Yes, Misti, that's what it is. The name comes from Mystery Science Theater 3000, a show on which a guy and two robots did that to old movies. [Logically enough, fans of the show are called MiSTies. [face_mischief] ] It's been done with fanfic -- not published books -- for at least 10-12 years now, and I remember the question coming up here in the past, though not recently. It may even be addressed in an old version of the FAQ.

I know you're not allowed to post them on fanfiction.net, but I don't know about here. Either way, technically you're reprinting someone else's work, and you'd need their permission to do it.

One of the proud initiators of the MST story genre. Yep, you heard right. I dared a friend to write one for the newsgroup years and years and years ago. It snowballed from there. You can blame it all on me!

She asked to MST one of her own fics, I think, agentj...

am I allowed to MST one of my fics and post it here?

Thanks. I really would like to know because I hate some of my fics enough to want to MST them.

there's been MSTs posted before, there was a really awesome YJK MST series.

I'd be interested in confirming this too though, since I have a bunch of MSTs that only a couple members here have been subjected to... XD

Any word yet on the MST's? I'm dying of curiosity. I don't remember reading anything in the rules against it, but there are so many places it's not allowed... I'm very curious. :)

I don't get why they wouldn't be, if you're doing your own fic...

Or if you have permission to MST other peoples?

Hmm... *looks over her MST folder*

*remembers that Jace is possibly not TFN-safe*

    hmm...

If you get permission, I'd be thrilled to see a MST of something of mine. Some of it is just funny when looked at critically.

::has read one or two of djcati's MST's::

I don't think Jace is TFN safe, Cati...::Shakes head::

But MSTs...if you have the author's permission/you are MST-ing your own fic...would be fine I would think.

You've read some of them too? :D

Yeah...he's, erm...not. BUT. He can be censored... ...with great difficulty... He can be taught that sometimes, it's what you don't say... [face_mischief]

I'm gonna go ahead with this, I think. Hee....

MST stands for Mystery Science Theater 3000 (a show that was very popular on scifi channel for an impressivley long amount of time) in which, if I remember the story correctly, this guy and two robots were forced to watch old and really bad movies in hopes of driving them crazy? At any rate, to remain sane, (or possibly to drive us crazy) they made sarcastic and occasionally funny comments about the plot, actors, and/or writing/production of said movies.

If you MST a story, you insert the aforementioned comments throughout the story as the weird guy and his robotic companions would have. *shrugs* I've never found them to be my "cup fo tea" but I do occasionally enjoy one.
