Maybe that's how we look, when viewed from beneath the glass ceiling?

//E_S runs for his life from a crowd of outraged women

Have you been cowed as to cower from women!?!

"People who actually buy TV stereotypes shouldn't be permitted to watch TV. "
That is quite possibly the MOST intelligent statement I have ever read/heard in my entire life...

I despise those commercial stereotypes. And the idiots who make them.

Like any American attempt to make British humour, it will totally miss the point. British humour is subtle and dry - American humour more often than not takes a few minutes to set up a joke. With the exception of Family Guy and the Simpsons, I don't laugh at American comedy much.

Oh, yes it is wrong that you look like Gareth Keenan.

"I may be many things, Gareth, but I am not immature."

I've heard a lot of good things about The Office, but haven't ever gotten around to watching it. I've really lost my taste for sitcoms (British or American), for many of the reasons people have mentioned in this thread.

I'd like the British version better than the US version of The Office. Dunno...we really suck at translations.

What about Kelsy Granner's Sketch Show? Good stuff.

I've never seen it. Though from the previews it looks like he's been dropping some drugs since Frasier went off the air.

Our culture is full of "O.K." stereotypes.

FID, it's not sucking at translation, it's that the average American has no capacity for subtle humour.

"See, now, that's wrong. No girl, Dutch or otherwise, should be punished for having big boobs."

This is so lame. Why do they do this to men. If any commercial made a woman look like an idiot they would be charged or something for being sexist.

I can't stand sitcoms to begin with.

And I most certainly agree with E_S that Friends was utter tripe.

There are only a few that I found worth watching (on occasion): Seinfeld, All in the Family, and the original Cosby Show.

I'm slightly embarassed for my fellow Americans to admit that Ender is right.

We get it, it is just that, by and large, subtle humor sucks.

Benny Hill was funny as Hell tho'!

British humour excels at dry wit, rampant absurdism, and dirty, dirty, jokes.

Good British stuff in recent years includes Spaced, Big Train, The Office, and Black Books.

    Watch them. I command you.

You know, Australia used to be good at comedy. Things like The Late Show, and Full Frontal (before everyone good left) were pretty good stuff. We're in a comedy drought, right now. Sorry state of affairs.

Ah, well. At least Roy and H.G are still around...

But I like the BBC's The Office! Anyone see Hollow Men on Comedy Central? Hilarious, unsubtle, and British. But best British comedy of all time, hands down, is Monty Python. Fawlty Towers is a close second.
