Democracy will spread in the mid-east. All people want democracy.

And then we're all live happily ever after.

You'd be "quick to fire" too if you'd been fighting to keep suicide bombers (some of whom are teenagers) from killing your people for decades.

Years perhaps, decades? I don't think so.

If I remember correctly, suicide bombings have been used against Israel since 1993. By my math, that makes it 12 years, or spanning 2 decades.

You can find a partial list from 1994 onward here.

The Tel Aviv Lod Airport massacre occured in 1972, and that attack involved a suicide grenade bombing, in addition to the terrorists using automatic weapons.

That's one decade and several years, not several decades. :)

    2005-1972= 33 years.

Or, at least over 3 decades, assuming there were absolutely no incidents of suicide bombings in the 50's and 60's.

More importantly, why does the differentiation matter to you?

Disregarding Mr44's point for a moment, who refered to "several decades"? The post you replied to only said "decades".

Even if we use 1994, that comes to 1.1 decades. The plural form of the word is appropriate because you only use the singular in the case of exactly 1 of the item (in this case decades).

So, grammatically, and factually, decades is the proper term.
