Wayne, Colin, and Ryan are all back. The host is Aisha Tyler instead of Drew Carey.
But the All Star Game is on!
Eh, I'm still trying to digest last night's Venture Brothers.
Even though I only watched sporadic episodes of the Drew Carey version, I devoured the original BBC version as a kid. Will definitely be tuning in for the new version, if only for the summer while not much else is on (I think Copper is the only non-animated, non-Stewart/Colbert show I'm really Tivoing right now).
And, yeah, Venture Bros last night ended on a massive WTF!
Really disappointed in Aisha Tyler right now.
Why? She seems to be doing fine.
That she's there at all.
Baseball would be more exciting if a bull was turned loose on the field
Paging Game of Throne fans...
Looks like a cross between a wrist-blade, a lightsaber, and Xena's chak-ram thingy.
I was amused:
Just one more day of actually teaching classes up here. Then a few days of closing up the program areas and herding cats.
That was glorious. I like to think that was essentially how conversations went in the Imperial Court.
...now I have a sudden desire to go watch Ridicule!.
Blasphemy! Baseball is perfection.
"I've been to Grand Moff Tarkin's home, it's quite lovely"
"No, it's filled with fish, like himself"
I like the idea of Mara Jade wearing a pin button with The Glove of Darth Vader in it. It should lift her morale.
"His residence reeks of a certain foul stench, and I don't refer to his Calamari slave."
And yeah the first time I read AGOT, all those years ago, I kept thinking of the EU Hands.
Sean Bean in a catsuit...
Somehow this movie is even more epic that its soundtrack.
Most of it feels like a mix of Godzilla music and the original Command and Conquer/Red Alert soundtracks. Maybe some Tron Legacy mixed in.
So due to prodding by
@Havac, I've decided to give DF2: JK another roll. Haven't played it since I was a kid, and I commented it hadn't aged well, to which point Havac threw the intro cutscene at me and demanded that I watch it and then say it hadn't aged well. And after seeing the live-action hilarity of Jerec's hamminess, the attitude of Katarn, old school references to Dark Jedi, and best of all, the iconic Nar Shaddaa cutscene that every game ALWAYS does an homage to looking even better than I remembered it... I had to grab it on Steam.
And I found the JKE mod which updates all the character models and weapons to not look like outdated crap, so that helped too. I just have an E-11 right now, only having completed the first level, and it looks lovely.
So in conclusion: damn you, Havac.
You should be thanking me every morning when you wake up, along with Jesus, for giving you incentive to play Jedi Knight.
Jedi Knight is awesome. Only played it once, should replay it soon (maybe I'll go dark side this time). My only complaint is that, for me at least, the cutscenes are positively broken; I'd love to see Jerec in all of his hammy glory, but my cutscenes are banished to the top left corner of the screen. It's like watching a video on an iphone.
I'd love to see this character model mod (and any others that improve the game)
Also, while we're on the subject of old school Star Wars games, I want to try X-Wing/TIE Fighter, yet I hear they're a pain to set up. Can anyone help me out? I suppose I should start with actually tracking down a copy of the games. Too bad they're not on Steam.
Here's some thread somewhere with install instructions for the mod I mentioned: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=25545971
Installing X-wing and TIE Fighter are easy if you have the original (superior!) DOS Collector CD versions: get dosbox, mount your CD-ROM drive, and play! I play TIE all the time.
If you're using Xwing95 or TIE95, you have to download a 32-bit installer from the interwebs, make a special install disc, and install from that, then use your original play discs when you play. Also you have to install some silly 3d accelerator patch for modern computers. Also you have to deal with sucky, sucky, subpar, stupid remakes that eliminate the iMUSE from the game and therefore completely ruin the game experience but instead replace the awesome music with stupid CD audio played on a loop. Oh, and all they give you in return is an improved out-of-combat interface and art, and XvT style ships. Not worth it -- go for DOS!
