ST Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) in Episode VII

I don't think we'll be getting another "I am your father" moment. Well, I hope not.

 

Perhaps it will be obvious to us, but not the characters.

 

I maybe should have clarified that I believe Kylo Ren is an Alliance pilot while dabbling with the dark side or already there. So, while with the Alliance, I think it would be generally acknowledged on screen that he's a Solo.

 

I agree, since TESB the HUGE reveal has become its own trope, and it's not possible to use anymore without invoking the Luke/Vader moment. I hope they have a different story in mind, the I am your father trope will crash and burn if they play it straight.

 

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere and my apologies if there's already several long posts dedicated to it, but when I first saw the name "Kylo Ren", I focused on the "Ren"...and what a perfect name for twins in the SWU that Rey & Ren would make, very similar to Jaicen & Jaina. Perhaps "Kylo Ren" is spoken in much the same way we Americans would say "Billy Jack" or "Tommy Lee", by pronouncing first and middle names together, while Rey simply goes by her middle name while her full name could be "Kara Rey" Solo or something like that.

 

I see Kylo Ren as a rather sad, Sith obssessed sycophant. He will be played all the way through the story and pays the ultimate price at the end.

 

Kira Rey is a very nice name. Basically means ray of light.

 

I would ask for an explanation for this etymology but I'd rather ask why you posted this here instead of the Ridley thread.

 

Just read a rumor online that Kylo has a close relationship with someone who fell/falls to the darkside. If this is an old character it can only be one of two people. Think maybe Leia falls (maybe his mom).

 

The journalist who did the writeup of "The Force Awakens" for the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly claims to have no inside info but nonetheless offers up an interesting take of Kylo Ren:

"Then there is Kylo Ren, the mysterious cloaked figure staggering through the woods on a snowy evening before igniting his fiery three-pronged lightsaber. Clearly a villain and identified in the trailer standing for "the dark side" in this new awakening, he is possibly the shadow version of Luke Skywalker from the original trilogy--the nobody who rises from nothing and nowhere to topple the powers that be."

 

That would be great. The heroes journey as a bad guy. Bonus points if he also begins with his family being murdered by the good guys.

 

Exactly my thoughts, Kira-Rey Solo and Kylo-Ren Solo just sounds right to me. At the very least I'm in the camp that Kylo Ren is in the same vein as the names Qui Gon or Obi Wan.

 

I agree. Although if this doesn't pan out, that's cool too.

Has anyone noticed how much Kylo Ren sounds like Corellian?

So....I'm guessing this is how rumors are made now.
Step 1: Find a character's name
Step 2: Add Solo or Skywalker to the end of it
Step 3: Say its from inside sources
Step 4: Profit

It doesn't have to be a parental revelation, but a game changing and totally unexpected plot twist would be something. Think "You are Darth Revan" from KOTOR twist.

 

I've conveniently forgotten about all that.

 

Don't know about that, but I'm pretty sure Han is actually Han Solo Solo.
