ST Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) in Episode VII

I know how I plan on doing that-stay off these forums from the first release day until I see it Friday the 18th. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself then though since I spend a large amount of my time here.

 

Really like this idea. So Kylo isa doctor with a claymore. Sounds fun.

Easy for me. I don't speak french. And French often refuse to speak "not-french".

 

Gah, meant cross guard sword. But yeah, the plague doctor mask, Medieval European-looking robes and sword style (not to mention the religious cross symbolism) are all highly Medieval images.

Part of the imagery of his "religious fanatic" character, no doubt.

 

Eh .. anyone catch the latest JJ interviews where he goes on about Driver screaming his head off to get into the character and alluding to Kylo losing his temper several times?

I'd love to see an actual angry, hate-filled Dark sider. To date, we still haven't seen the qualities of the Dark side actually come out in any characters.

Edit: we did see some hate and anger come out from Anakin at the end of ROTS but it was a rather short scene. I'd love to see more raw anger like that.

 

^^ Sorry for the DP, I know it's a long interview but if you have the time it's definitely worth a listen! I'm not even halfway through but there's already some good stuff in there, like how Adam used to sell vacuums, or him and his friends setting up a 'Fight Club' with his buddies after seeing the movie

 

I'm hoping Adam pulls inspiration for his anger from having to bed Lena Dunham in Girls. Yack. Yack yack yack.

Interesting that Driver didn't have to audition. Boyega and Ridley went through a long elimination process, but JJ apparently knew from the get-go who he wanted for Kylo.

 

It seems like he was courted.

 

He sounds like a very humble guy.

I like him.

 

I wonder if he will continue to wear a mask after episode 7 since he removes it towards the end. I'm thinking no, I think he was using his mask to hide his identity for some reason.

 

I think the helmet is more of way to resemble Vader. The back of the helmet itself was clearly modeled after Vader's.

 

I agree with the way it was modeled but I still have a fealing he was hiding his identity. Maybe even from himself.

 

Not really. Driver had already worked with the Coen Bros and Speilberg and had also been on TV for 3 years or so.

Boyega and Ridley are pretty much spanking new.

 

I wasn't comparing experience, just intrigued by the fact Abrams had a clear idea of who he wanted for the role.

 

And then he takes off his helmet and goes all: OMFG I'm Kylo Ren!!!!!!!

 

Ah, my bad.

 

Or, I'm Han and Leia's son or I'm Kylo Skywalker.

 

Maybe by the end, he becomes maimed somehow, so the mask becomes less of a tribute to Vader and something to cover up the scars. Unlikely, but just speculating.

 

Spielberg probably said "You know JJ, you oughtta get this Driver kid as your villain," and JJ went "Yep, that's what I'll do, Steve-O."

 

My first thought when I saw this scene was "this guy should be a Star Wars villain".

 

Unless that`s Anthony Hopkins cosplaying at home.
