Been trying to search a topic on this matter for quite long time, but the search botton does not work, can't search anything.

I'm trying to make the Tholoth headdress, the first two prototypes are useless and I'm stuck. If anyone has any tips or pointer, I'm open to suggestions.

This is what i've been doing:

I found some pictures in a thread on the replica props forum. If you go to www.therpf.com and search for stass alie or Adi Gallia, the thread should come up.

Apparently somebody got hold of an actual screen-worn headdress, and the thing is for sale on some props site, for a few thousand dollars. There should be a link to the site in that thread.

I saved those photos as well.

Here's the actual headpiece (minus the band covering the seam).

    Yep, those are the ones!
Amazing how organic that headdress looks- it looks more like something grown than made, as if Adi Gallia and Stass Allie took chunks of plant matter or animal, trimmed them, and plunked them down on their heads. I would love to see a backstory on that headgear!

As far as I recall, those headpieces were made of latex. Although if a person really took some time, they might be able to do a reproduction in stuffed fabric- I imagine it would be like building some sort of bizarre stuffed animal meant to go on one's head.

Thank you so much!!!! these pics are just what I needed, now I have to "go back to formula", but it's ok, I was about to make a mistake again.
    Thank you, thank you!!!

Im gonna try that foam scupting tecnique with this one, 'though I can definetly do this with fabric.

These pictures are a lifesaver to me.

    thanks again!

    :D Coolness!

I was going to try it myself..but I pushed that off to the AFTER Dragon*Con project...

I am trying a prototype out of material right now..I do believe the site mentioned it was a foam latex casting...

But Im not feeling that insane right now.

    Good luck on the headdress!

I started to carve the foam, doesn't look like much right now, but I'm not giving up on this one.
I want to thanks again for the reference pictures, could not have gotten this far without them.

I don't have recent pictures yet. Been so busy lately. But I will post some soon.

If anyone knows the best way to apply a latex covering layer to foam, I will appreciate it very much.
