As some of you may (or may not) have noticed, the Administrator positions have had a bit of a shuffle...

I'd like to take this time to clarify exactly who is in what role now, so that we can move forward in terms of establishing clear lines of authority and communication.

A basic overview of the Authority Structure is as follows:

    Emperor/TFN Editor-In-Chief (Josh)
    |
    |
    Supreme Chancellor/Head JC Administrator (Vertical)
    |
    |
Vice-Chancellors/Co-JC Administrators (Kadue, Padme Bra, DarthSapient, Carter)
    |
    |
    Senior Senators/Managers (All Managers)
    |
    |
    Freshman Senators/Moderators (Moderators)

As you can see, NathanDahlin has stepped down as an Administrator, as his time online has become more limited than he would like, and he does not feel he has the time that the position of Administrator requires.

DarthSapient was selected as his replacement, so congratulations to him!

In an effort to clearly define each Administrator's role, they have each been given a specific title, with specific duties:

    Security Administrator:

Padme Bra will be filling this position, dealing with security issues, handling chronic problem users (contacting their ISPs, that sort of thing), etc.

    Technical Administrator:

Kadue will be filling this position, dealing with day-to-day technical requests of the Jedi Council (theme changes, icon management, general appearance of forums, headers, etc.).

    Communications Administrator:

DarthSapient will be filling this position, dealing primarily with the Communications forum, and providing Administrative support and feedback on all issues presented here. He will handle most Administrative announcements from here on out.

Carter will also be retaining his Administrator Status as a TFN representative, and as the JC Graphic's Administrative Coordinator.

Aside from their specified roles as listed above, the three JC Admins will also serve as the Head Admin's temporary replacement, should the Head Admin need to be away from the board for any extended period of time. They will work together to resolve issues as quickly and fairly as possible in the absence of the Head Administrator.

Hopefully these clearly defined roles will facilitate better communication, and provide clearer lines of authority, should there ever be a need to escalate problems or concerns.

What does this mean to the everyday member? Basically, the only time this heirarchy will affect you is if you have a problem with a particular member of the moderating staff.

We encourage all members to try to rectify any situation via PM with the particular moderator in question... However, should these means not garner the results you're looking for, this heirarchy should provide you with a clear path of escalation. If you have a problem with a moderator/manager which cannot be resolved via PM, please do not hesitate to involve an Administrator (Carter, Kadue, DarthSapient, Padme Bra, or myself).

If the problem is with one of the Administrators, please contact me directly.

If the problem is with me (or whoever is in the head admin role at the time), please contact one of the other Administrators, and ask them to involve Josh in the discussion.

Ideally, you won't ever need to do this, but we understand that sometimes situations arise that need to be rectified and dealt with from time to time, and we're hoping that this clear structure can provide the proper guide to escalation.

Thanks, and please post any questions.

Are there any special requirements for becoming an admin that can be announced?

There is no set, written criteria for becoming an admin, although a few key things are necessary...

    - A vacant Administrator position, obviously
    - Proven dedication to the boards and to TFN
    - Proven board experience (seniority does play a part, although this is not a huge necessity)
    - High availability
    - High interest in policy-making and implementation
    - High level of motivation to get things done.
    - Support of the other Administrators
    - Expertise in the vacant area

These are just the things that come off the top of my head. Generally speaking, we just look for someone who is very active, has a lot of time and energy to dedicate to the boards, and has a good deal of experience under their belts.

There are usually a few 'standout' candidates, and the Admins discuss them and come to a consensus.

    Right, second question.

The step up from Mod to Manager, is there anything special involved in the choice other then time as a moderator?

There is a time requirement which, at the moment, is set to 90 days.

Mind you, the moderator should also be comfortable with the promotion.

Just make sure you don't quit and leave in disgust the day before you're supposed to be promoted to manager. ;)

    And one final question,

How long will it take you to amass the forces necessary to pull off a coup de main?

Obviously you'll need to either subvert or take out Cagey Bee head PB, I'd also suggest you get Carter.

I guess this means that JMT becomes a manager on Wednesday.

Thanks for the information, Ryan. :)

I believe the latest Vegas odds are at 42 days. ;)

Carter needs a title. I mean, look at him! He feels all left out. He's over there whimpering "Security..... Communications...... Technical...... Why can't I be anything! :_|"

If you don't give Carter a title, major drama erupts.

Tomorrow, we announce the "Reminiscent Admin," who is responsible for reminding us How It Was, about the Golden Age and the Mayor Chronicles, about how small the forum was and how all use n00bs and newbies and N.E.W.B.I.E.S have ruined everything. He'll also cackle occassionally and whip newbie mods with his cane of ash and spit metamusel at them.

You forgot about the personal assistants in the AC, they should be on the list too!

Edit: To make it politically correct.
