right.......I tried to defrag the other week and found my hard drive got bad sectors now my computer wont even boot up.
Finds all my bits DVD, CD writer blah blah then shows Windows ME....and thats it.

Could the bad sectors have caused my baby to die? :(

yep, maybe the only way to get your data is to set it up as a slave. (2nd hard drive on another pc.

sounds like re-formatting might solve the problem. but thats going to be a bit difficult if it wont boot.

why not trying booting it from the boot disk you made, then re-formatting it.

and if that doesnt work... well buying a new hard disk is your only real solution.

If you mean re-formatting then this could be expected. It is only a delaying maneuver until you get yourself another HD. The bad sectors always reappear, usually in greater number, spreading like a forest fire. I had a Conner disk pull that one on me.

well. youve had it then. sorry to be a bit negative :)

its not all bad. at least you can get to us.

why not make your own hard drive out of a frisbee, a sewing needle, and half a motherboard.

i saw it on blue peter. either that of i drank too much smirnoff ice too quickly last night.

    oh bloody hell people.

    reformat.
    defrag.
Partition the disk (so that you don't use the bad sectors)
    reload on your stuff

    Voilaaa!

Ofcourse, it would be advisable to still get a new one and use this as a slave drive.

I'd buy if I had the funds myself.
You wouldn't be interested in a Conner HD, would you?

if you do sell yourself remember:

    1) ask for money upfront
    2) put an advert in the local newspapers shop window
    3) tory MPs are easy money
    4) dont bother apply for a natinal lottery grant instead

Get a parrot and train it to make the noises that hard drive make and put it in your pc case and it will work better then any hard drive you have ever had. It does need feeding though because otherwise it will make the noise of a bad hard drive and then you lose some data

How large a disk do you need? - I can see what's lying around.

Also - don't use windows tools.

You get all the luck PC wise huh J? :(

First the BIOS, now this. Really, a new HD is the best way to go, once the sectors start appearing, that's it usually...

Did I mention that my PC blew up last week?

The power supply went up in flames, knocking out the motherboard, both hard drives, the cd-writer, the dvd-rom and the sound card.

Waiting for the insurance firm to pick it up tomorrow.
