Aesop's fable set to the melody of the Galop Infernal (aka the Can-Can) by Offenbach; inspired by The Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns.

I suppose it should be The Tortoise and the Hare, but "tortoise" requires an extra syllable to pluralize. :D
The Turtle and the Hare
Everybody, please prepare
To see the Turtle race the Hare
I am sure there is no doubt
There's only one way this can turn out

Hares are famous for their speed
But turtles aren't, no indeed
Everybody knows who wins
Before this crazy race begins

There they are
The runners at the starting line
And our star
The Hare is looking very fine

There's no way
The Turtle has a chance today
May I say
He should be praying

Look - they're ready
Holding steady
So I reckon
Any second NOW!

There goes the starting gun
The race has now begun
So it is time to run
And prove to everyone that

Speed isn't all that hot
You shouldn't brag a lot
When it is all you've got
I kid you not

We turtles are not fast
We often come in last
When many days have passed
But relics of the past we're not

Certainly we're slow
But we can win although
The odds are really low
As we all know

It should come as no surprise
The Hare is winning, girls and guys
He has such a lead, you know
He might as well be going solo

What is this? He's slowing down
And almost stops to look around
As to say there's no way
I can lose so I choose
To go slow so you know
I am so

Quick and slick
And oh so speedy
Fast, surpassed
By none indeedy

He's making a mistake
Well, here's my lucky break
Which I intend to take
Though it is hard to shake

The feeling that it isn't fair
If racing fair and square
I wouldn't have a prayer
Against the Hare

But I'm clearly not to blame
The infamy and shame
Will blemish not my name
For it is true to claim

The Hare's reaping what he's sown
He really should have known
The fault would be his own

Now I am at the finish line

I don't believe it but he's first to cross the line
The thrill of victory is mine
It's more miraculous than water into wine

I tell you, it feels very fine
What a totally amazing race
It really was sublime
And there's no doubt that
We'll be speaking of this
Till the end of time
