You know how after the battle of hoth luke resigned his commander status in the rebel alliance to go and train to become a jedi knight? Well when he returned to the rebel fleet what did they do or say to him? I mean he took a rebel x-wing, thier ship, went out of orders and went to degobauh(sp)and they lost all contact with him. So they just let him come back to them like no biggie? And now that he gave up his rogue leader and commander status, what is he to the rebels now? Hes a jedi now, but is he still a commander?

The Rebellion was hard up for qualified officers, as is the case with any army made up of "irregulars." I'm sure he did not have to resign his commission to go train as a Jedi. General Reikan probably sent Luke off with the Rebellion's blessing, considering that in the Old Republic Jedi Knights acted as de facto Generals, and to have a new one would inspire the Rebels even more.

Han is an even stranger case. He went from pirate to Captain to General, and was all set to leave during ESB. Reikan even thanked Han for his service.

How did Lando go from businessman to General?

"How did Lando go from businessman to General?"

someone must have told them about his little maneuver at the battle of Taanab.

It seems that rebels like to give away the rank of general.

The same way that a smuggler did. A smuggler that spent an entire year in a carbonite coma, and twice tried to abandon the rebellion altogether.

An alliance generalship must be less like an Imperial one and more like a party favor.

The truth is that no one really nows the ins and outs of whether Luke had the green to go train. All that was said was that Luke would meet the others at the redevous point. thats about it.

Actually, Luke didn't resign from the military until a year or two after ROTJ (following the Shadowspawn campaign, in which the senseless loss of life convinced him to do so and focus on restoring the Jedi).
