I'd have to say Lorna Freeman or Jim Butcher(Harry Dresden series). Lorna Freeman is the author of "Borderlands:Covenats", one of the best books of its genre(fantasy) that I've read in a long time. And considering it's her first novel makes it even more amazing. Would love to read her take on a Star Wars based book.

I think that CJ Cherryh would write a great SW novel. I love the action, intrigue, and great pacing of the Foreigner series; all essential elements for a great SW story.

I wish Gaiman would just write more novels... Star Wars or otherwise.

His writing style would be totally wrong for SW.

I just remembered one other writer- Chris Bunch. His work reminded me a bit of Aaron Allston's Wraith Squadron books. They weren't the best ever, but very enjoyable to read. And they're well suited to SW

David Weber for battle scenes and political intrigue, especially since writing SW would hopefully stop him from inventing new weapons systems. :)

David Feintuch for his proven ability (with the Seafort saga) to have a complex and conflicted main character which would be perfect for writing Darth Vader.

What do you think a Dan Brown Star Wars novel would be like? (author of The Da Vinci Code)

If he wasn't dead, I'd love to see a Mario Puzo novel, based on Jabba or Prince Xizor, or the Black Sun in general.

Otherwise, maybe Barrinton J. Bayley or Carol Gino.

If it was as poorly researched and written as his other books, it would probably feature Captain Kirk.

Can I vote anyone but Zahn? :p (I have tried for two months now to get through HTTE, and I am failing miserably. I just cannot get through his prose. Gah!)

Hmmm...Dave Wolvertine. I loved COPL. Okay, so Han and Leia's character borderlined OOC for a few bits, but he, more than any other, has captured the feel of the SW movies for me. Serious plots, but mixed with a sense of surrealism that's parodic enough to remain quite entertaining. And I loved his Luke Skywalker. One of the few EU portrayals of him I really liked.

Joss Whedon. Great dialogue, storylines, and characters.

Stephen Pressfield. His novels of ancient Greece feature heroes, be they gloriously extolled or tragically hated. And he does his research! I think his actual writing is excellent, too.

Man, a Jabba novel written by Puzo would be amazing. Hey, maybe Winegardener can write it (jk). :p

Having just read a trilogy of hers, Carol Berg can blend evocative emotion and sword action well.

Sword and sorcery, just what SW is, right? ;)

    R.A. Salvatore
    David Drake
    Robert Jordan

^Salvatore actually did write a SW novel I think, but it was one of the NJo ones right? Let him write about a bounty hunter or a smuggler's adventures instead of some big sweeping book.

    JMS could be awesome.
I'd also like to add S.M. Stirling to write a SW adventure novel.

Orson Scott Card would be brilliant but, unfortunately, his pure contempt for Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones (he liked ANH and TESB, and didn't mind Sith, except for the dialogue) probably eliminates any chance of his ever writing an Expanded Universe novel.

    :(

Shame. His Ender Saga has the most brilliant themes and characters...
