Read something that points out some neat parallels between this episode and the premiere...

Skye gets nabbed in both episodes, and in the premiere, the truth serum administered to Ward gets her to open up and trust Coulson. This episode, she gets nabbed, is in the plane, and Ward is again on the receiving end of stuff usually reserved for "the enemy." There's also the diner, where last time around Skye tried to convince Mike (seriously, Deathlok is a guy named Mike, that's kind of hilarious) he was a hero, and this time she's exposing Ward as a traitor.

Congress is never 100% happy with anything, and that goes for politicians in general.

Refresh my memory. It was Fury himself that ordered Coulson's ressurrection? So despite the problems Coulson told him about Coulson became the first successful subject.

Dalton and Chloe's scene on the plane was well acted. Is it just me or has this season felt like, "This is the cool stuff we were getting to while all you haters were saying our show sucked"?

Except of course the flying/dropping car scene where I hope they fired the SE supervisor.

    1. Ward is utterly nuts as he is a villain who thinks Skye will "one day understand" that his evil ways are the right way.
    2. Ward might have joined Hydra as a very lost soul for the sole purpose of one day destroying it, meaning his entire arch is a tragic character.

But the show did suck. We can pretend like this was all planned out to the minute, but let's be honest, the framework for a new show has to be really flexible by nature. I can't deny they had a point where they wanted to be as the season drew to a close, but I'm really hesitant to buy into the "we were working on this the whole time so you should've been patient" mindset. A bunch of my friends were way more forgiving of this show than I was, and they quit six episodes back.

This thing really didn't have the best start, but it has definitely improved.

They could have been making it up as they went. It is not important. The show has been entertaining. Best or worst on tv? Far from it. It's good enought or watch and follow. Or have you all just been watchign this show because you are just waiting for it it get suckier and suckier? [face_dunno]

The beginnings of shows almost always are terrible. It's rare for a show to get out of the gate running and not slow down.

I honestly don't judge the quality of a show until the first half of the season is over, the first half should essentially get a pass as a warm up or practice period.

Yup. As Maria said, he buried the person behind TAHITI when he decided NOT to bury Coulson. Hence why May went grave robbing. Basically, Fury's friend is dead and he wants him back. He knows there is a procedure to do it. He knows it has terrible consequences. He even knows that Phil would be 100% against it. But he's not ready to let Phil go for whatever reason.

Also, did SHIELD have a giant statue to Black Widow where all the agents worship? Because the amount of times they have name dropped her makes her THE agent everyone seems to strive to be. ^:)^

Guys, it's okay if it sucked at first. It's all right. I am admitting the show is better. Just because you folks saw no issue with it does not mean that everyone felt the same way. :)

In regards to all the Black Widow references, it does always amuse me in media when everyone is constantly talking about how great a specific spy is. You can't be a great spy AND famous.

You can be a great FORMER spy I guess.

Titan A.E. from 2000 *with wonderful animation!* was co-written by Joss Whedon, and I am under the weather today so had a chance to watch it. It, too, features a massive betrayal, seemingly a common theme in this guy's oover.

Kudos for the way that Agent May just
stepped out of the shadows of their motel room. Ooooh.
    Nice direction and mood.

Most of his stuff, much like X-Men, didn't make it. Similarly with Ben Edlund though you can tell for sure exactly which line was certainly his.

The best spies are the ones who don't bother with making a cover or staying secret. They walk up, use their real name, and wait for the villain to explain their nefarious plans.

Here's an interesting question: Was Coulson's lady friend from 1x02 simply just greedy or working for HYDRA?

It's more like she's the most noteworthy of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in the film universe, so they're name dropping her a lot and not other agents from the comics. Unless it was something specific like Trip being Gabe Jones' grandson.

She isn't famous. Therefore she can still do things like the reverse inflitration/interrogation scene in Avengers. Otherwise she, like Rogers, like The Falcon, are just incursion specialists.

I think you misunderstand what I mean by famous. Black Widow is famous because she's been in "Iron Man 2", "The Avengers" and "The Winter Soldier". Three films with a significant amount of screen time. She gets name checked a lot because of that.

Out of universe that is the reason, in universe it's because the best agent in SHIELD and has the top rankings in most categories. For someone like Ward, it's her then him in terms of best fighter in SHIELD. So it's understandable for him to mention her as she's a rival. She's Fury's right hand so agents like Koenig would mention her too as they are all in Fury's inner circle.

Black Widow is probably famous in the intel community, how many people know who she is and what she looks like may vary. Also she has tons of identities, Natasha Romanoff just being the latest. So she can still do spy work, a lot of people either won't recongnize her or think she's one of her other identities. I mean Bond still does spy work and he rarely even bothers with an alias.

Well they wouldn't recognize her if she hadn't appeared before dozens of cameras at that congressional committee after the Trisklieon and the heliocarriers went down and all of SHIELD'S/HYDRA'S secrets were put out in the open, including her info.

True her covers are all blown now, but that is a mountain of intel so high finding all that specific info would be like finding a needle in a haystack. I mean I remember my old intel professor telling us a few years ago how the CIA was just now sifting through info they collected back in 2002.

Besides Coulson easily erased everything on him and his team, so I'd imagine she'd have done the same shortly after.

Yeah, first thing he did after Talbot said he was coming to the Hub. Coulson told Skye to delete everything on them and the team. So they are all ghosts now.

Well, Black Widow presumably doesn't have a Skye with her so erasing everything on herself might be difficult right now.

Well Widow seems pretty competent with computers, if she can't do it Stark has the resources for sure.

In the long term I don't think the intel drop is that big of a deal. After a few weeks everyone will have covered most really important and personal stuff up again, it was just a way to prove Hydra was inside SHIELD.

I think more than her cover would be that everyone knows her face. Remember the big Russian spies hiding out in America thing in 2010 that was all over the news?

You don't? Well maybe you'll remember one of their pictures

She'll never work as a spy again with that face.

Maybe all this fame is a secret plan to recast her and say plastic surgery to reclaim anonymity...
