Seems like a random thread, but I follow a few Van Halen fan pages and if you think nerd rage is ignited when someone claims the Star Wars prequels are better than the originals, try claiming a favorite lead singer for the world's greatest rock band since Zeppelin (if you disagree, you're a communist! :p). So for no reason other than boredom and potential laughs, let's talk about it.

I think Roth is better with Van Halen, but Sammy is the better musician. And the guy gets better with age. Chickenfoot's first album was better than Van Halen's last one.

    They're both pretty cheesy.

I prefer Haggar Van Halen. High school memories and all that.

5150 was a better album than OU812 but I liked both.

But not only is Sammy a better musician, he's a better person and easier to deal with and is not a total weirdo.

Didn't Diamond Dave become an EMT at one point?

They both pale in comparison to For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. 5150 was awesome live though. OU812 needs a remastering! You can barely hear Michael Anthony's bass! A great injustice.

David Lee Roth has a vocal range of five octaves and three notes. (E1 to A6)

I kind of like Van Hagar more because they seemed to embrace the poppiness a little more than they did during the Roth years, in which they were just as cheesy, but weirdly serious about it which made it somehow cheesier.

This is apparently true. I am not sure he was broke. He may have just decided to give it a go. He said he responded to over 200 911 calls.

A rather impressive performance on Jimmy Kimmel last week. Eddie looks (and plays) great. Dave Lee Roth is pretty good, but he smashed himself in the nose twirling his mike stand on the first take of Panama, so he's slightly off his game (still good though). Alex is Alex, and Wolfgang looks like he ate Michael Anthony.

That's the healthiest looking I've seen Eddie in a long ole time. He looks like Lew Ashby from Californication now (Callum Keith Rennie).

Diamond Dave, no contest. All his Van Halen albums are good. With Hagar they made some duds.

They've got a lot of balls releasing an album of that garbage. DLR is an absolute mess, he can't even remember his lyrics.

I prefer the Haggar VH. Roth is a more flamboyant performer and is actually a really smart guy, but Haggar is more one of the guys.

I don't like the VH bros though much since they unceremoniously kicked Michael Anthony to the curb.

what's amazing to me is that they made it through the grunge era of the early 90s with big albums, and then self destructed.
personally i think they had good songs with both guys.
