Alan Silvestri discussion

This here's to discuss all things Silvestri. What prompted it is that the PREDATOR soundtrack has FINALLY been released. I had an old bootleg, and this new edition is not only longer, but the sound is much better, and there are fewer but longer tracks, which is generally a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Not the greatest music in the world, but very catchy action music.

He's also done the Back to the Future films, the excellent Mummy Returns, The Abyss, and plenty of others.

 

I can't believe you missed Forrest Gump! An amazing OST that was pipped to the Oscar post by the (deserved winner) Lion King OST by Hans Zimmer

 

Oh, Forest Gump. I LOVE that suite. Its so, appropriate for the movie. Its one of my favorites.

 

I just received the Predator score a few days ago and boy am I happy to finally have it. Thank God for Varese Sarabande.

Silvestri is one of the most versatile compsers out there. I'm thinking of getting the score to Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life after hearing a few good sound clips. I've not seen the movie, but the music sounds good enough. Kind of like The Mummy Returns with electronics. Also, I can't wait to hear what he does with Van Helsing next year.

Now if only he had scored Pirates of the Caribbean...

 

Before Mummy Returns I did not know him and didn't know what films he scored. imdb surprised me quite a bit. After knowing that, I saw Predator again after years and listened more closely to the music.
I think when I have some money to spare I should purchase a few CDs with Silvestri's name on them

 

My favorite score of his is his work on the '98 "Parent Trap" remake.

 

His 'Back to the Future' music Rocks.

 

Silvestri... I got one comment about him.

His "Ghostbusters II" score is the only score I know of that is actually TOO GOOD.

The soft, sweet love theme doesn't quite fit a comedy... it feels like it belongs in some sensitive drama.

Go figure.

If I want BTTF music, what's the way to go? I hear the original soundtrack only has a few minutes of score. . .is there a BTTF score released? Should I go with one of the sequels? Or get the BTTF Trilogy soundtrack with music from the first two rerecorded by Cliff Eidelman I think it was and then the third one as recorded by Silvestri?

I own the Forrest Gump score. It is beautiful.

I like the music from Contact as well.
