This story is in response to a challenge I received from a person I know. This person noted that I always wrote fanfiction along lines established in movies and novels. However, the person asked if I could write a whole epic based off of just one line. That line is:

(Force Heretic I, Remnant, pg. 50, Danni Quee in response to Luke?s plea to go after Zonama Sekot) ?I?ve also heard of the Algnadesh Ship Graveyards, and the Lost Treasure of Boro-borosa, but that doesn?t mean that I?m going to go halfway across the galaxy looking for them. Every astronomer who?s worked the Outer Rim knows about those things. They know they don?t exist, for starters.?

Oh? This takes place as about two weeks after Destiny?s Way, and is assuming that the Force Heretic Trilogy never occurred, and Luke realizes that Zonama Sekot doesn?t exist.

Deep Space, Four Light Years From The Brentaal System

Admiral Latr Gentwe stood stoically on the bridge of his Republic Star Destroyer Relentless, and looked out the transparisteel at his fleet being blown apart.

Latr Gentwe was a member of the Paqwe race, a culture of semi-humans that live on the heavily mechanized planet of Paqwepori. His name was indicative of great respect among his people; the title of ?Gentwe? had only been afforded to seventeen others in the history of his illustrious race.

Now, however, no rank or title was going to save his battle group.

When he had performed the microjump out of the Brentaal system, he had thought that they had evaded detection, and had accomplished their reconnaissance mission.

Oh, how wrong they had been...

Less than an hour ago, they had beamed a tight-wave signal to Mon Calamari, confirming that the Corellian Trade Spine had been overrun by the insidious invaders, the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong.

The Vong had jumped in with a fleet of thirty-two capital ships, seventy corvettes, and nearly two hundred picket ships. This huge force far outclassed Latr?s comparatively minuscule fleet of twenty-one Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari battle cruisers.

The battle had raged a mere seven minutes, and almost two-thirds of his fleet was gone, with only minimal enemy casualties to show for it.

A lieutenant looked up from the sensor boards. ?Sir, five more Vong warships have dropped.?

Latr vaguely gestured toward his navigator. ?Bring the Relentless around, to heading oh-oh-four-nine-seven. Guns, maintain a steady hold-out turbolaser stream at the port broadside emplacements.?

The woman running the gunnery station shook her head. ?No can do, Admiral, sir.?

Late blinked in shock at being disobeyed. ?What??

The gunnery woman shrugged. ?Eh, sir, we lost every gun on the port side, and we have hull breaches on every other deck. Plus, the ion emplacement blew up, and tore off a huge chunk of the hull with it.?

Latr sighed again. This was getting worse by the minute. ?Belay that, then. Accelerate to sufficient speeds to enter hyperspace.?

The navigator just sat there, unmovingly.

    Latr?s eyebrow rose. ?Do it!?

The navigator closed his eyes. ?The engines are on fire, sir. I do anything, and we light like a candle.?

Another officer jerked his head up. ?Sir, we have a breach in the hypermatter reactor shielding!? Before he had even finished his sentence, Latr began to feel lightheaded.

Hypermatter was an extremely unstable material that naturally broke down, to somehow produce more of itself. This nearly-infinite chain reaction produced a wondrous amount of power, more than enough to power the colossal Star Destroyer. However, the main problem with the system was the simple fact that the hypermatter was obscenely radioactive, more so than a Class-Five Neutron Bomb. That much atom bombardment could kill a Wookiee in mere seconds.

Latr slumped to the deck. ?Overload... now...?

Luckily, the reactor specialist on deck was a Trandoshan, a species more than beefy enough to resist high powered neutrino shelling for a few seconds. He issued one last command. The hypermatte

Okay, this was on Page 4, and I only got one review so far. There will be a new chapter soon.

    If anyone cares...

This is a cool idea for a story, Zar. Good for you. It's fun to use some of the throwaway lines in the EU to create stories.

Don't worry about the slow responses at present. There have been a few upsets here recently that have distracted people and the boards have been slow for a while. Plus it's awards time again, so people are a bit preoccupied with them.

I'm curious to see what will happen next, so PM me when you post. I don't get much time on the internet any more, and so don't have time to browse for stories.

Hmm, interesting start. I like the idea of taking a little snippet like you have and seeing what you can make of it. And, OUCH, was that ever a nasty defeat for the Alliance to get things rolling. Great descriptions of the space battle. :D

    Nice first post, Zar. :)

Okay, gotta get on with this.

Tahi: Ah, hey Tahi. Haven?t been around in a while, so I haven?t really had a chance to review your stories. Meh, I?d totally forgotten about the awards... Anyway, how is Anna doing?

JDH3: I thought it would be interesting to see how a throwaway line could do as a story. Eh, problem is, I have more done on the sequel than I do on this. I really have to set this straight...

Planet Sespe, Old Hut, The Next Day

Luke Skywalker knocked on the old thatched door for the fourth time, and sighed. He had been informed that his contact was here, but he didn?t seem to be at all interested in answering the door.

Luke looked at the ancient dwelling. The place had to be at least fifty years old, and in bad upkeep, at that. The roof looked to be made of some kind of thin, hair-like substance that looked quite unstable.

Luke?s head jerked back as the door swung open. In the frame was a wizened, wiry human man. He had a short, light grey beard, and his hands were shaking uncontrollably. He had a wistful smile on his angular face.

His voice had a labored wheeze in it. ?Come in... come in... please, enter my humble abode...? He backpedaled inside, and stood sideways past the door. He swung out an arm like a butler.

Luke shared a glance with Anakin and Tahiri. Anakin remained unreadable, but Tahiri?s expression betrayed her thoughts. What the kriff is wrong with this guy?

Luke was equally puzzled. Was this the only guy left in the galaxy that knew where Algnadesh was?

The man was still standing there in that odd position, and Luke figured that it would be best to take the man up on his offer. The three Jedi strode inside, and stood uneasily in the dusty space in the middle of the one-room structure, wondering if the roof was going to cave in.

The man gestured wildly, forcing Tahiri to slip out of the way before she was smacked in the face. ?Please... have... a seat... Make yourselves... at home...? He chuckled under his breath.

Luke was trying very hard to keep a straight face, and motioned the other two teenagers to sit.

The old man crumpled down to another hand-made wicker wooden chair, placed his hands behind his head and leaned back. His next words were free of the normal wheeze. ?Shall I assume that you are Master Skywalker?? He laughed at their confused faces. ?The craziness was an act. I?ve been here almost my whole life, and being seen as ?mad? keeps people away from me.? He reached out a arm, and shook the three Jedi?s hands. ?My name is Kir Felidoron. There isn?t any other reason for your being here than to ask about Algnadesh, so fire away. I?ve been here fifty years, but... I?ll never forget.? He leaned his head to the side and up in a contemplative manner. His eyes were deep, as though remembering something... a lifetime ago...

Luke figured he should take the initiative. ?Yes, I am Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. And also, yes, it is absolutely vital that we find the Algnadesh Ship Graveyards. I need you to tell me everything you remember.?

Kir shot a glance at him. ?Oh? And in return, will you tell me why you need that information??

Luke sighed. This old man was extremely crafty. ?Very well. We lost almost every ship in our fleet to a Yuuzhan Vong attack a few days ago, and we need all the ships we can get our hands on. From my understanding, a few clones might still be alive, although they?d be in their seventies. They would be able to show us how the equipment works.?

Kir burst out laughing, and keeled over, almost falling right off the seat. ?You?re... you?re kidding, right?? His words were intercut with chortling.

Luke was confused, to say the least. ?What? One or two should be alive, still. Capital ships hold enough consumables for over a year?s eating of their crew of thousands. Even one ship should have enough food to keep a few men alive to their dying days.?

Kir had calmed, although his cheeks had reddened from laughing so hard. ?Do you know anything, anything at all abo

I like Kir Felidoron. He?s certainly a lively, if I can use that term given his age, OC. :D

Kir smiled briefly. ?It was a long time ago... on a planet, far, far away...?

    Nice.

Kir?s recollections were interesting, and I liked how Anakin and Luke worked together to persuade him to help them. Should be an interesting ride from here on out. I?ll be looking forward to seeing what planet they end up on next.

    Fascinating post, Zar. :)

Wow - this is fascinating. I like originality, and Kir is interesting. The backstory was great. I like stories that link past with present.

It's good to see Luke working with Anakin and Tahiri. :)
