Thanks for still visiting us lower life-forms. I heard Maxer is lead lighter on a new CG feature at Blur. He's moving up all the time. There's actually about one or two dozen finished shots but some are pretty out-dated. We've amassed a lot of models over the years but it continues to be difficult to find people who are capable of putting something together. And that's just non-character work. So... I don't know if it'll ever get finished but we have an idea to release it in parts maybe.

Yea.. Willi "Maxer" Hammes. I bet Tobias told me that awhile back and I forgot. Sony Imageworks. Another good place to work. How long ago did that happen?

Since we had to start over with a new forum I thought I'd share some old stuff that maybe you guys haven't seen before. I'll upload more as time goes by. We only have a few people working on it at the moment so I think we should just show some of what we got. It's been going on for about 5 years with diff. crews coming and going... and a few who've always been there. It's all WIP... things will be changed, edited, re-lit, etc.

    http://www.scifi3d.com/endor.wmv

Just right-click and save. It's a rough test from a year or so ago of our Endor animation. Andreas was the cheif animator. It shows you the look of our lasers since somebody was talking about that. It shows you some good, but not perfect, animation. The last few shots were not edited into the right spot or at the right speed. It's NOT complete!! So please don't critique the obvious. It's just a gift for our forum. Zorbi has since redone the planet, reworked lighting, etc. Just figured I'd show you guys some stuff since we work on all these thngs for years and years and don't share much of it outside our small group. Hopefully those guys won't be mad.

There's another one that we shared a few years ago.

    http://www.scifi3d.com/Hoth1-3.avi

We have a huge swath of Hoth shots. Big ideas. I'll share one shot here. I liked the camera angles and style. TwistViper actually practiced some post-work on this one and completely fixed the lighting, smoke color, etc. all in post. Had a picture of that somewhere.

    Here it is:

    http://www.scifi3d.com/hothREDO.jpg

Amazing what you can do in post eh??

This is actually something new being done by somebody I can't find now. See how they come and go? Wrecks havoc if you have an actual deadline. This was actually all being done in 2D. The renders of the crawlers were from SF3D models and then everything else was done in photopshop. Even painting textures on the cralwers themselves. You can see where it's done and not done. Hopefully this guy is here in SFM somewhere and will see this. ??

    http://www.scifi3d.com/spaceport_anim_test01.avi

Our "Coruscant Spaceport" thread is gone now but here's the "almost final" animation. We need to add more craft, traffic, and activity.

What I think is interesting about all of this is how much has changed in 5 years. Look at our old SOTS trailers on SF3D and then look at the Spaceport. The advances in technology has really changed our art a lot and the tools have made their way all the way down to us. For that reason we would never go back and redo anything. It's a piece of art history almost. It shows the evolution of graphics in our community

Oh.. found a smaller test shot.. http://www.scifi3d.com/theed_d2.avi

This is probably as far as this shot will ever go. We need some birds tho.

    http://www.scifi3d.com/bespin_test.avi

Something Zorbi did a long time ago that never was completed. The date on this is.... Aug 2003. So you can imagine what could be done with this now.

    http://www.scifi3d.com/Shot_01_Test_A.avi

This is old stuff too. A lot of people have worked on this over the years. I think Zorbi told me once just the one big main rock on the right is 1 million polys.

There are two reasons I show all of this. Want to share stuff with people. Let people see what we're doing and keeping some things still secret. I don't know if this will ever get finished but the process is a lot of fun. The other reason is to maybe inspire a few people who want to help. So if anybody is interested email me.

Wow. The Hoth shot is amazing, just like in the original movie. It has the same feeling. Just make the smoke a bit less darker and it would be perfect.

About the spaceport... What to say... It looks REAL. Yes, the special effects technology has improved a lot in five years...

So does it mean that we will see Son of the Suns completed? I hope so! [face_praying]

Wow, these keep getting better and better, as you said. Boggles the mind as to what might be able to be recreated or created in 10 years. Just imagine video games alone.

Wonderful work by your group. I always love seeing these.

That's some really great stuff. Inspires me to want to complete my movie, but I'll have to wait since I've sort of reached a road block in my computer---seems right now it can't handle more than 3.7 million polys but it won't be a problem because I'm upgrading next week and my new computer will be able to handle it easily.

Alot of these I cant watch because of the compression. THe only one i could watch was the battle over endor one.(BTW, where on the soundtrack was the audio track to it found). So could someone upload them to something like .wmv or .mov. From the images, they look really great.

Wow! Those were great. Especially the Naboo and Coruscant ones. Please tell me, HOW did you make the Coruscant one. I have been having so much trouble trying to create a good CG version of Coruscant.
