Wow, those stats are really interesting - for all the complaining and complaining (and complaining) about LotF, its series average is over 7.5? If they were movies, that'd be 3 out of 4 stars - the Literature forum, as a whole, has given the LotF series 3 stars. Really think about that for a second. And the lowest series average of all (minus the BHW, granted) is 6.44? We really like us some Star Wars in here. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised; this actually reinforces my own research pretty well...

Maybe you could ask a mod about that.

And shouldn't the three books in the Han Solo Adventures be reviewed separately?

Are they able to be purchased seperately? I don't think that they are any more ... are they sold as an anthology?

If it is sold as a 3-story anthology, then I suggest it have only one review thread. Otherwise, it would be like having a seperate review thread for each short story in the 'Tales of ...' Anthologies.

Surprised Admuar is so high. Great book, but Allston has done better.

Good point. Discounting 'Revenge of the Sith', as it is a film adaptation, is 'Starfighters of Adumar' really the GREATEST ever Expanded Universe novel ever written in the Star Wars universe?

That alone is a worthy topic for debate.

That actually would make an interesting thread: take the top five books as the Lit Forum has reviewed them and discuss their various merits and demerits, and how they stack up against each other. Someone should make that thread. [face_mischief] (I mean someone not me, FYI.)

I'll probably try to put together a Lit Reviews Books We Missed Special later today. [face_peace]

    Excellent thread!

I just wonder if the master list is going to be updated anytime soon to include all the books that have come out since 2007?

The New Jedi Order: (Series Average: 7.90)
9.18 Enemy Lines I: Rebel Dream
    9.13 The Unifying Force
    8.92 Traitor
    8.90 Star by Star
8.46 Edge of Victory I: Conquest
8.43 Enemy Lines II: Rebel Stand
    8.38 Dark Tide II: Ruin

This is pretty telling and its what I always thought about the njo as a whole. Without stackpole and allston (two of my all time favs), a great middle and end act (SBS, TUF) and outstanding character pieces on Anakin and Jacen (EoV I, traitor) this series wouldnt have even cracked a 7.

The Jedi Academy Trilogy: (Series Average: 6.61)
    6.96 Jedi Search
    6.60 Champions of the Force
    6.28 Dark Apprentice

this is really funny! Maybe I just need to reread these, but I remember loving this trilogy when it first came out hmmmm. Maybe im in the minority here. What were the major causes for complaint? I remember liking Kyp and the sun crusher story and the shocking destruction of cardia, the begining part in the mines was fun , establishing lukes new academy and meeting the new jedi to be, the danger on yavin 4 (i think this was from exar kun if im remembering right?), and winter protecting the solo kids. seemed to have alot of really good stuff, but like I said, it could be time for a reread.

The JKA was a great series that was written badly. So many new ideas and characters yet stylistically the books are horrible. I can't think of a series that has had more effect on the EU and that includes TTT and yet in took I, Jedi for me to retread any of it.

LEADER: The New Jedi Order series is a bit mediocre, not even worth cracking a 7. And what has the NJO ever given the fans?

    COMMANDO #1: Dark Tide.

    LEADER: What?

COMMANDO #1: Stackpole's Dark Tide duology.

LEADER: Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. That's true. Yeah.

    COMMANDO #2: And Allston.

COMMANDO #3: Oh, yeah, Allston's Enemy Lines duology. Remember all the witty one-liners?

LEADER: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you Dark Tide and Enemy Lines are two things that the NJO has done.

    COMMANDO #1: And Traitor.

LEADER: Well, yeah. Obviously Traitor. I mean, Traitor goes without saying, doesn't it? But apart from Dark Tide, Enemy Lines, and Traitor--

    COMMANDO #3: Star by Star.

    COMMANDO #2: The Unifying Force.

LEADER: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough.

COMMANDO #1: And Edge of Victory.

    COMMANDOS: Oh, yes! Yeah...

COMMANDO #1: Yeah. Yeah, Anakin's characterization in that one is something we'd really miss, without the NJO.

LEADER: All right, but apart from Dark Tide, Enemy Lines, Traitor, Edge of Victory, Star by Star, and The Unifying Force, what has the NJO ever done for US?!

    (Sorry, bschuster--I couldn't resist! :p)

See the post right above mine. :p

Seriously, though, right there you have almost half the series doing quite well in the ratings - including Traitor, which is one of the most controversial books out there. yes, people dislike parts of it... the point remains that the NJO did give us a lot of good books; you can't say, "Well, the NJO as a whole wasn't so great, ignoring these books over here," because those books over there are a significant part of the NJO. Wordcount wise, they may even come close to comprising half the series (because I'm pretty sure that between SBS and TUF you have a huge word count relative to the other hardcovers).
