Does anyone know a good otc allergy medicine that helps with severe itching? I'm sick of breaking my skin by scratching.

Allegra is non-drowsy but not as effective as Benadryl, which causes drowsiness.

Zyrtec works really well, I find. Helped treat a hives outbreak I had last year.

Sarna is a pretty good (if expensive) lotion for itching.

Have you seen an allergist? Maybe one could get to the source and prevent this sort of thing from happening altogether.

Is it always so severe? 'Cause yeah, I don't think OTC meds and home remedies are going to cut it.

I'm going to once I get back home(WI) tomorrow. I just need to see a doctor that does extensive patch testing which is hard to find in rural areas.

I would talk to an allergist if no other medication is working.

I'm sure your regular doctor could recommend one and refer you.

If it is that severe, oatmeal baths are a possible route for relief as opposed to remedy.

Keeping it real...those are probably your only two choices for OTC (I mean, there's alternatives to Allegra like Zyrtec and Claritin, but chances are they aren't going to give you different results), and if Benadryl isn't cutting it chances are nothing else OTC oral is going to be any better.

What ACoD said. Oatmeal baths work wonders for itchy skin.

If Benadryl gel doesn't work, you need a prescription.

Good luck, hope you get some relief soon.

Pinetarsol is good for inflamed skin. It comes in a gel, a soap and a liquid you put in the bath.

For some reason I thought that last part of the sentence read "and a squid you put in the bath".
