Amph Almost Human from JJ Abrams

Came across a trailer from one of FOX's new series this fall. It looks awesome. Trouble is, it's on FOX so I don't expect it to last half a season.

Why isn't this a Dredd TV series?

 

That looks like it's going to have to pull a ridiculous number of viewers for the advertising purchase demand to fund the show. It looks ridiculously expensive. Even more than Firefly.

 

Like I said, it's on FOX, so I don't expect it to last more than half a season.

 

That's a shame, because it looks very interesting. But as posted above, it also looks ridiculously expensive, so it definitely feels like a limited series right from the get go.

 

Urban and Ealy. Want it to work, expect a 13 episode run.

This is Fringe's replacement and it's got Abrams behind it, so I doubt Fox will pull the plug too quickly. All of that expensive stuff probably happens in the pilot, and from there it's probably just another procedural with a sci fi twist; not that expensive.

 

That's the first thing that came to mind for me too. Terra Nova got cancelled for pretty much the same reason if I remember. It was doing ok numbers, I think a 2.1 average if I remember correctly but in the end was just expensive to produce.

 

Doesn't BBC have a show called Almost Human?

 

You are thinking of Being Human.

 

Perhaps the could combine the two: Being Almost Human, a show about a vampire robot and his cyborg-werewolf partner.

 

If it looks good and promising and watchable on FOX, it's likely headed to an early death.

Hey, Strike Force Centauri is a classic.

 

After seeing the pilot at Comic Con I'm excited to see the series, but dreading that it won't get the support it deserves.

 

Once again, I am jealous of the Comic Con people.

I'm worried too, especially given, again, that it's on FOX, the place where most sci - fi goes to die.

 

The best sci fi show of recent years is Orphan Black.

What confuses me so much about the show is the arbitrary nature of its sci fi branding. It just seems to be a generic buddy cop film. The robot's database replaces the know it all Sherlock/CSI team/hacker guy/eccentric scientists who co-founded Massive Dynamic as the source of plot-resolving obscure facts. Why did this need to be in the future, and what is the point?

 

In a sea of police procedurals one must do what one can to stand out.
