    Good chance it's official, the AC FB page has a cover image of a snowy landscape that had people calling 'Valley Forge' within minutes.

    Yeah I was really hoping after having read up on the French Revolution that it would be that instead of this...but there's still hope isn't there? The American Revolution is partially responsible for the French one, so maybe in one of the III sequels they can port it to France.

    Here's to hoping.

    But in talking about this game....what kind of stuff would you climb?

    I think it's pretty rad that the new guy (apparently) is Native American...the story should be really interesting.

    Colonial rooftops? British/French forts?

    Yeah, I'm no history buff but I don't think 18th century America really had too many awe inspiring climbable landmarks. Maybe this time around there won't be too much focus on platforming?

    Not having super tall things to climb on won't bother me...compact city areas to jump roof to roof on works, plus you can throw in a large cave or two for some screat tombs. It would be cool to see if you actually have to do missions during a battle, or maybe even have the ability to climb trees and attack in a forest or something...the first 4 games have been pretty similar, so I'm hoping they mix it up quite a bit.

    I guess they're trying to make something American players can relate to. Hopefully they don't start to believe the Assassins were actually a fundamental part of their nation's history.

    There's always the hope that they could start off in America, and then shift to London/Paris for later sections. Really, if it's set during the American rebellion, he should definitely be in France while they were revolting. Mind you, the French are always revolting, so...

    The Templars, probably not so much, but there's a whole ton of stuff to work with there concerning the Freemasons. Also, George Washington possessed one of the Pieces of Eden, from what I recall. I can easily see American enemies getting scalped as frequently as Redcoats in this one.

    Should be all right. As far as Colonial-era architecture went, the northeastern cities boasted buildings rivaling some European ones, in terms of height and scale. I'd posted the same thought as Raven in another forum yesterday morning, re: setting parts of the game in Paris and/or London.

    Both cities were the scene of some pretty big, vital Revolutionary doin's during the war.

    Am I the only one who only liked the first game? Maybe it's just me, but the rest of the series opted more for the show-off/cool factor, even if it doesn't make sense.

    Point taken. I guess at that point (1777-78) there were bustling cities across the Colonies that can provide the traditional platforming/climbing challenges. But since - again - I'm not a history buff and definitely not a Yank I don't know if we'll have anything that can compare to the Roman towers, Christian cathedrals or Middle eastern ziggurats from previous games.

    As for going to London or Paris, I guess it's doable but considering those cities are an ocean apart from America, you'd have to consider the transit time involved for our new tomahawk weilding hero. Not to mention the fact that if he's a native, he'd definitely stick out like a sore thumb amongs all those puffy Europeans.

    Tons of amazing info on AC3:

    • Ubisoft want it to be a jumping-on point for new players without losing touch with what longtime fans cherish most.
    • The game's protagonist is a totally new hero called Connor/Ratohnhake:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo). He has an English father, and a Native American mother.
    • More details about the protagonist/scenarios: You will experience Connor's childhood on the American frontier as he is raised by the Mohawk. The Mohawk eventually clash with white colonists, who burn their village down, causing Connor to dedicate his life to confronting tyranny and injustice.
    • A new traversal approach is in this game, that has players leaping and climbing trees and mountain cliffs.
    • Uses a new version of the Anvil engine that can "depict thousands of troops engaged in bloody battle" along with highly detailed facial close-ups. They later imply that if they used version numbers, they would be like going from Anvil 1.0 -> Anvil 2.0, or something of that nature.
    • Judging by the images, the faces really are quite good.
    • Combat is focused on putting you on the offensive, and is based on speed/momentum.
    • The main character has thousands of new and unique animations (no carryover from other titles) to support the new combat system.

    Character details:
    • George Washington: Interacting with Washington is one of the core relationships of the game.
    • Benjamin Franklin: He's not a convenient inventor, à la Da Vinci.
    • Charles Lee: His role is a mystery at this point in time.
    • The game is set between the years 1753-1783, and is centered around the cities of Boston and New York.
    • Ubisoft: "It's not just going to a historical building now; it's going to an historical event."
    • Event examples: "You will see the great fire of New York. You will visit Valley Forge as a location that is currently occupied by Washington's forces. You will visit these places in the moment that they were important, and hopefully, experience the reason why we know where they are today. That's the goal."
    • Connor is right at the heart of major battles, and they can now have a couple thousand guys on screen, whereas before it was capped at about 100.
    • The overall story is still centered around the Assassins versus the Templars, and Connor's journey.
    • Not all American colonists will be cast as "good" people, and not all the British will be cast as "evil" oppressors. They're trying to focus on how both the Assassins' and Templars' viewpoints exist in a "grey" morality, as the Templars really believe they're saving the world.
    • The French and Native Americans will also feature in the game, as was probably really obvious.
    • The modern-day stuff relates to that location in New York at the end of Revelations.
    • There will be all sorts of wilderness in the game referred to as "The Frontier."
    • The map of The Frontier is 1.5 times bigger than the entire map of Brotherhood.
    • The Frontier is not empty like in Assassin's Creed 1, but features a solid third of the game's missions and gameplay-content.
    • The Frontier also includes colonial settlements like Lexington and Concord, and Connor's Mohawk village.
    • You can hunt animals for resources, and how you kill them affects your reward. A one-hit kill on a bear gets you a much more valuable pelt than stabbing it eight times.
    • The wilderness traversal plays a big part in the gameplay in The Frontier, allowing you to use trees, cliffs, ledges, and more to set up kills and combat.
    • Connor does have a hidden blade.
    • The world changes as time passes, so a field where a battle happened in one year may just be a series of empty encampments a few months later.
    • The entire world will change with s

    Yeah since Charles Lee is prominently involved, he'll definitely be an "evil" American so to speak. I hate that dude.

    Totally. Also:

    No more tower-defense?

    Changing seasons and weather/geographical conditions affecting gameplay?

    Massive armies numbering in the thousands fighting one another?

    Getting to play basically as a tomahawk-wielding, Templar-and-Redcoat-scalpin' Daniel Day Lewis?

    The five main images most people have seen:

    [image=http://i.imgur.com/RAARZ.jpg]
    [image=http://i.imgur.com/kMUzd.jpg]
    [image=http://i.imgur.com/cu2wN.jpg]
    [image=http://i.imgur.com/63BnY.jpg]
    [image=http://i.imgur.com/Y8Lx4.jpg]

    The dude in front there is taken from this character model of Charles Lee, so that's probably either a photoshop into the image or an overlap of two images from a GameInformer scan.

    I'm REALLY excited that there won't be any tower defense. That was horrible in the last game.

    I'm also excited for the locations. I'll be climbing to the top of the Old North Church at the first opportunity :)

    Trees? possible since America was heavily wooded. though i doubt it would take place only in the wooded areas, that is an idea. And a cool one at that. and judging from the pictures it may also be happening.

    i think that's the point, they have been inserting assassin's into history since the first game. it's a cool and alternate and obviously fictional way to look at history. All in all this seems like a really excellent turn in the series. i love the European settings but this is something i didn't expect and it is very cool. count me in.

    I was just thinking that as I read over the details. I'm not a fan of Assassin's Creed at all, but considering the time period and what we know so far, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

    Considering what I've read so far, this has become the 2nd most wanted game I wanna try this year. And this is considering that I couldn't be bothered to finish Revelations. I pray that if ME3 does dissapoint, at least this one won't.
