I agree with you guys 100 percent. Something needs to change. They may as well call this Pirates Creed. The past two games I have not felt I am an assassin, Connor grew up in a village with no assassins, Edward doesn't even know he is one (yet. I'm only on sequence 7) Is it too much to ask for us to actually get back into the Assassin stuff? I want to go out with assassin team mates and hunt Templars and guards. I want to be immersed in that experience.

The best part of this game is the modern day stuff for the story aspect. I'm learning so much about the first civ and piecing together bits and pieces I've learned over the past few games. The main story sucks so much so far I can't even tell you. Assassins Creed is about the story, always has been, and it's been lost here.

I've played AC since it he first one came out, die hard fan, I have the comic books, all the games etc. Don't get me wrong I like pirating and whatnot but I want a STORY. And so far both this and Batman Arkham Origins (played and beat that before I started this) have completely let me down.

Connor had exactly as much assassin exposure in his youth as Ezio.

Except we actually see more assassins in AC2 towards the end instead of some old man on a homestead. Maybe we would see more in a sequel but we didn't get that.

I just think the last two entries feel like a sidebar.

We saw more assassins because the nature of the individuals involved was different. Connor was much more of a loner and had a deeply personal dimension to his quest - namely that is his father was one of the people he was hunting. Ezio, though driven by a desire for revenge on the Borgia for the death of his family, is less of a loner. It's possible because of his status as a wealthy aristocrat of the time that he was expected to lead and taught the value of this from a young age. Connor had a different upbringing, was more of an outsider, and it reflected.

Don't get me wrong, there's elements of this game which have lost something and lost something in AC3; but it's not what you're saying.

Personally I think I liked 2 the most largely because unlike the rest of it, you can still see a largely unchanged Firenze now. Roma is obviously different, but not grossly so - the Pantheon, Palantine Hill, and the Coliseo are surprisingly accurate.

I suppose youre right. I want this game to be something different than it is or was ever going to be. I just want to feel like AC2 and Brotherhood...that sense of "wow." Everything clicked with those two games for the most part.

Does anyone agree we need to move backwards in the timeline again? Theres an email message when you hack computers about Desmond's ancestors and one was in Egypt. I would love to go to Egypt as an Assassin.

And also, is anyone as sick of guns in Assassins Creed as I am? It was ok in AC3 but this game is kind of stretching it.

Actually I'm fine with the timeline but would love to see either victorian London or revolutionary France.

Victorian London would be cool! Feudal Japan would be great(could keep the naval combat in a new and fun way). Egypt is almost a no brainer I think. Imperial China around the collapse of Han could work great. The Brazilian Revolution would be epic as well! Or Ubisoft could just admit that Watch_Dogs is a full fledged modern day AC...

I would love a AC to place in World War 2 but unfortunately Ubisoft said that will never happen

Well they specifically want to avoid placing a game in an over-exposed era. WWII has been done to death. No, they're probably never going to do anything from the twentieth century.

Also, I tried whaling last night and felt so repugnant doing so that I gave up. I appreciate it's historically accurate but the game would not have, in any way, been diminished were it removed.

The actual in game reasoning behind that is because people have vehicles and when they drive theyre in a "near catatonic state" which disrupts the memory procedure and makes it difficult to recall.

OK so I assume nobody has played the awesomeness that is the Saboteur?

Harpooning is definitely irksome. Maybe if the next AC game visits Canada we'll also get to club baby seals to death.

    and whaling is?!

I want it to be clear - I'm not fussed about the difficulty. It's the actual act that's a problem. Whaling is not cool.

And pirating and assasinating is? :p

I get what you're saying though. After awhile, it was rather sickening to kill bambis, thumpers and whatnot in AC3. But harpooning whales just for the sake of upgrading your ship? Eh, yeah, that could've been jettisoned altogether. Along with so many other things.

I had no problem with hunting or whaling in the games. The same way I have no problem eating beef or assassinating people in the games. And besides, those things are optional. You don't absolutely have to do it. Just skip it.;)

I guess given that whaling is still a thing for ridiculous reasons, I'm just broadly uncomfortable with it as a practice.

To each his own but I see where you're coming from though. I don't mind it and I'll admit that I do get a kick out of those sequences. Overall it is unnecessary and I would rather they focus their efforts elseware to improve the game.

There are parts I love though, to be fair. The naval combat is fun but I'm seeking out challenges there. The AI can easily be routed if you put a tiny island between you and them - they won't broadside you properly. Keeping aware of the wind gauge and tacking or jibbing greatly increases your odds of success in combat. I find now, with Jackdaw being around Level 25 equivalent, that I can handle a Level 23 or similar ship with 3-4 schooners in escort with relative ease.
