I play this game with my brother, with my friends, with my cousins, with distant relatives, with people I've just met.

I play wonderfully, but I can't ever ever seem to win!

Always, someone gets Park Place, and than makes me a really really good offer on my Boardwalk, then...I lose 20 minutes later.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Or, better yet, anyone have any ideas/strategies on how to actually WIN?

The Trick is to not set your sites for Mayfair and Park Lane, go for the three Blue, Pink and Orange estates.

The monopoly of these places, will give maximum 0wnage at an affordable price.

What crazy version are you playing? Maybe your reds are faded?

    Anyway my rules

    1st rule buy property
2nd rule get a monopoly (any monopoly even the cheap ones) ASAP. If you're first you're better off for it.
3rd rule don't trade a monopoly to someone else unless you're getting one in return
4th rule it's all a crap shoot but try your best not to over build and have to sell houses. 50% return just sucks.
5th rule 2 cheap monopolys side by side are better than boardwalk and parkplace.

And which version are you playing Tenor?

    By my understanding.

    Rule 1 - Don't talk about Monopoly.
Rule 2 - DO NOT TALK ABOUT MONOPOLY!

Yeah. Always make sure you're the banker. Slide $50's under the board, and sneak them into your pile while no-one's looking.

Double pay yourself Beauty Contest winnings, underpay fines, and keep a spare "get out of jail" card up your sleeve.

Yeah its always conveniant to be the banker [face_mischief]. I do very well at this game, it usually has to do with luck. :)

    Also good rule of thumb:

    - If you have something that someone else wants, hold off on trading it. Especially if you know it will give them an advantage. Only wait until they get desperate enough to give you insane amounts of cash and property. Usually their greed for your item will be their downfall, since they will have little-to-no cash to pay for anything.

In a 2 player game someone will only offer a trade if it helps them beat you. Remember this.

erm, I win frequently at Monopoly, my technique is to buy "Old Kent Road" and "Whitechapel" (erm, they are the brown ones immediately after the start for all you people playing on foreign boards ;) )

They are like 50pounds each, then you can buy houses for a further 50 each. Basically, you can have a hotel on each for 300pounds or so :) BUT, the good thing is if someone lands on either, they are owe you 400, or 450 pounds, which after a few rounds of the board makes you quiet abit of money.
