Heya. I'm a silly American who was hoping to live in Australia for some time. I'd be going to live through the US Navy, and was wondering if any of y'all knew where any bases were..

And where a good place to live would be

Base in Sydney, most likely. Although US Navy ships dock in Darwin, Melbourne and Brisbane as well, I believe. Wherever you are, it'll be nice.

Umm..there was a base in Exmouth in the North of West. Australia, but they closed that yrs ago, I dont think there is a US Navy Base here...I know ships go to Perth, but I think you will have to check with your CO or something, maybe they might know..

But by all means, come to Australia..we're friendly people.....

 

The reason I asked y'all is that I can't get a full list of bases until I get into Bootcamp. I didn't know if there was a base or not. I've always wanted to go to Australia since I was a kid... it always has seemed like such an awesome place

Welcome to the Aus forum Carosel. If you're thinking of coming to Australia through the Navy. I think there are a few American bases in Australia. One is Pine Gap, which I think is run by the CIA or the Army. Also I Think there's a naval base in Darwin. But the entire country is basically a port for US navy ships. I would suggest trying to be stationed on a ship that is ported at either Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne or Sydney Harbour. Both are probably the most liveable and beautiful cities in the world and they both have awesome nightlifes and friendly people.

It's very likely that Navy ships would be stationed more commonly in Australian East Coast cities, due to New Zealand pulling out of the ANZUS treaty due to their policy of no nukes in urban areas.

Anyways, you'll probably love anywhere you go in Australia, We're all just one big happy family down here.

 

There is a US Naval base in Darwin...

There are many bases all over Australia for Aust Navy. The American Defence Forces work closely with Australian Forces in everything anyhow.

Were you thinking of transferring to the Australian Navy? Or perhaps going to ADFA?

If you have any Naval related questions, ask away. My father has over 35 years in the Navy and is currently one of the higher ranking Officers at Garden Island. My younger brother is currently down at Cerberus in training, to graduate next month as a combat systems operator

So, for sure, there are bases here? Sounds like a plan for me. If I could just get to go to Australia for one week, I could die happy. Maybe it's the silly childhood imaginations I've had about Australia and how cool it is, but something's been pulling me to visit forever.

So, if I were stationed along the East coast, what should I look into first? How much are most apartments, and places to stay on average (yeah, I know prices can vary a lot, but let's just say the normal kinda place, 1 or 2 bedroom place with bath and a sink)? And how much of a currency difference is there?

I don't want to sound like a complete idiot, but since I am an American, I have no clue about your armed forces and how they work. Could you enlighten me more? Thanks
