Amidala's Theme

Can anybody tell me at what point I can hear it on any of the Soundtracks?

What theme? Can you give me an example of a scene it's in?

 

John Williams apparently composed a theme for Queen Amidala for The Phantom Menace but was ultimately never recorded, obviously meaning you'll never find it in the films or soundtracks.

However, I heard a rumor at JWfan.net that the previously composed Amidala theme was recorded and used in The Patriot (2000). On the soundtrack, one guy thought it was most prominant in Track 8 Ann and Gabriel. I personally don't believe it due to lack of proof, but it's not a bad place to start looking.

Yup, you're right.

 

Why on earth was it never recorded? Did JW and GL exchange their brains for mashed potatoes?

She does have the love theme, though, but that´s a small comfort.

one, I had thought that the theme was recorded, but JW decided he wanted to save it for something else.

two, I had suspected that the theme either is or influenced what we fondly know as ATS...

but that is just speculation

 

Just wondering, is there a Padmé's Theme? I mean Anakin has his, Luke, Leia, Yoda...Etc...What doesn't she have a theme? Maybe in Episode III?

If they recorded the theme during the score sessions, I can't see why it wouldn't be in the score. See what I mean?

Williams probably composed the theme on his piano, and for some reason, Lucas didn't want it in the movie.

 

Good point, tun_dot_com. It could be something that GL wanted to save for use as some sort of mother theme for Padmé in EpIII.

I am sure someone said you can faintly hear it around the time the handmaidens appear in TPM?

Nah, just some elegant motif, fitting for her handmaidens.

Menace is packed with them.

 

yeah, as it is so many people wanted to name every 4 measure section as someone's theme, that this probably fell into that category. For a theme to really be associated with someone, it has to appear multiple times with that person, and is usually played with during later scenes (ie. shmi's theme made a small appearance in TPM and there was some debate as to whether it was her theme or not...however, its use in AOTC solidifies its association with her).

 

I believe that Amidala's theme will be revealed to be Leia's theme in Episode III. This would pair nicely with the Luke and Anakin sharing a theme.

Why wasn't Amidala paired with the Leia theme in TPM and AOTC? I think it is because she was not married until the end of AOTC.

 

According to the TPM Insider's Guide, JW wrote a theme for Padme, but it went unused in the film at GL's request. I don't believe it was ever recorded.

 

JW wrote a theme and GL requested that it not be used? Interesting! (I don't have the DVD for TPM.)

I wonder what GL has in store? Surely Padme' must have a theme by the end of Episode III.

That backs up my theory, that Padme and Leia will share a theme.

There IS an AOTC Padme theme. at the begginings of track six and eight of the AOTC soundtrack.

But that's the only one for her.

The Amidala "theme" thing is about the similar music seen during some of her scenes in TPM, but if it is a theme, its so incoherent that its crazy!

 

Perhaps it will surface in Episode III.

 

Cam, can you give us time markings from those tracks?

I am really holding out for Padme to have a theme in Episode 3. I think that whether she lives or dies the circumstances surrounding the birth of the twins will be very sad. So I am thinking of something somber that would reflect the overall darkness of the film.

And if a theme is created for her I would love for it to be rescored into Return of the Jedi where Leia tells Luke about her memory. The Force theme is played now, but JW could re score it, combining the two together.
