Oh, I see, you meant "It's absurd" and not "Absurd also suffers from the same problem." THE PERILS OF METAL.
yes, that is what i meant. i just listened to some absurd, though. it seems pretty terrible, even in strictly musical terms. one band that is definitely of that ilk that i like is graveland. the earlier stuff, anyway.
I can, to a point, understand the resentment of Christianity as a destructive force - what Chrisendom did to Germanic, Celtic, Nordic and similar cultures was nothing short of destructive hegemony - but the racism? Please, haven't we learned that the Aryan myth is just that - a myth? Aryans were northern Indians, not Vjikjings! or Teutons. Varg, like many intelligent fascists, is highly charismatic but that doesn't cover the fact he's just plain wrong.
it strikes me as something of an indulgence in fantasy, this going-back-to-the-roots stuff. it's the draping of a fantasy existence over your regular one. neato mosquito!
I assume that in addition to blastbeats and guitar, all Norwegian black metallers are proficient in martial weapons like swords, morningstars, axes and spears. Abbath is probably a deft hand with a crossbow, too.
There's also this: Damn I love it when Japanese pop goes metal. Same group, with a bit of a rearrangement by Marty Friedman and Chthonic's Freddy Lim:
Yeah, very. deftones are my favourite band and I was lucky enough to see them live in the early days, when Chino wasn't super-fat and had blonde hair. I also got an all-access pass to a Vans Warped tour that they played on in Australia around 2000 or so. Met them there. Steph and Abe were hitting on anything female, Chino sat in the corner playing guitar and not interacting with anyone and Frank and Chi were knocking back beers and chatting to the fans. RIP Chi
I'm ashamed to say I've never seen them live. They were actually here in Toronto recently but I wasn't able to make it. Maybe next time....
From their website: "There are so many things I can say, and yet at this moment, none of it matters or compares to the loss everyone feels. There will be a hole in our lives where Chi once was. But that will be filled everyday with all of our love and memories we all have in our heart. He will always be here because of love. It's time we all give our love and best, and do our best to love. Especially ourselves, Chi would want that for everyone. All our healing will begin with love. I love you, Chi." Stephen, for Deftones
