Of course we can compare the two! We can compare them and conclude that Luke had a far more compelling reason to go to Byss than Jacen had to indulge and then be bozo'd by Lumiya.

You have remembered that I'm one of the biggest DE fans here, yes?

Not so much anger as apathy and disgust.

Right? Even I'm getting tired of all the bashing; I just want to focus on the good instead for a while.

According to Leeland Chee he never fell.

I was spoofing Terry Pratchett (and Neil Gaiman) - Good Omens, in which the less-evil-than-most-devils Crowley is described that way.

By apprenticing himself to Palpatine and learning the deepest secrets of the Dark Side, Luke began "sauntering downwards" - but Leia managed to stop him from actually "falling".

I tend to see it that Sidious got bored of waiting for Luke to corrupt himself, he realised it'd take forever so stuck Luke, unwillingly, onto the dark side fast-track.

It's a pity that only appears in the audio version of Dark Empire. Would have been better if it had appeared in the comic as well.

Oh, I'd say it's in the comic but more read-between-the-lines, although Zombie Luke on Eclipse is a bit of a giveaway.

    Maybe this bit:

Leia's words tear through the shadows like a dagger of sunlight...a voice cries out...from fathoms below the darkness that enshrouds the mind of a Jedi.

Star Wars at its most nuanced.

Edit: In conclusion, the most important things to take away from Traitor are:

it isn't the best SW novel because it doesn't have Luke

    and

Luke would have done what Ganner did, but survived.

also, Luke never fell in Dark Empire, I guess that's somehow relevant to Traitor or the NJO

    Gah. I want more Traitor. Jacen–Vergere–Nom Anor–philosophy–Ganner!

Of course Luke fell in DE. Otherwise he wouldn't have needed Leia and baby Anakin to help him get back on his feet.

Pity the Skywalker-Solo-Clan couldn't be bothered to spent the same effort on Jacen. I have to ask, would Jaina have been able to redeem her brother, if she had been pregnant? Although a baby out of wedlock in SW? No wonder the poor sod had to die.

Stop it!! Your ridiculous !!!! Luke does not know all what the reader knows. He could not have known Jacen was a sith at all. When he did know he did try and redeem Jacen in Revelation. You can't blame Luke in inferno. Luke was reacting to save Ben. Yes traitor was wasted by lotf. That is sad but I still see the seeds if what he became in Traitor. Sorry but I do.

The sales of Stover's other work would appear to prove quite the contrary - that and the desire for him to do more.

I meant no one in this thread.

I'll probably continue it but instead of chapter by chapter I'm going to switch to scene by scene and eschew getting from A to B. Later today maybe. I'll even discuss Luke in Dark Empire when I get to comparing and contrasting Dark Empire and Traitor as fulfilling similar functions for Luke and Jacen in their respective developments.

But I risk tearing my wallpaper off the wall and crawling around in it.
