Just a question, does anyone know if you can do network rendering between 2 computers on Max 5, I know that network rendering can be done but I don't know if you can just use two computers, if the rendering goes fast enough then I can use the Global Illumination for the whole movie.

I'm pretty sure you need a special license for network rendering. And if what I've had to put up with is any indication, global illumination isn't going to work for you in any sequence of frames. Even with the settings cranked up really high, the lighting changes subtly from frame to frame, causing dark and light patches to dance across your model. This is just my experience with VRay, but I'm sure something similar happens in most other cases.

EDIT: And the engines need texturing. BADLY.

I'm planning on texturing the engines soon, but it's hard to make them look right since they are cylinders. But I noticed the lighting problem on the textures, plus it takes 45 minutes to render one frame so I won't be rendering the whole movie in GI.

Nah. Go regular for an animation. Heck, if you're using max, the light dome plugin here should yeild some pretty nice results. 'Course, I'm still waiting for Zap to release his plugin pack.

Yeah, I'm going to render it normally, plus it doesn't look so bad normal anyway.

Ok, I've textured a bit of the engine and other parts with weathering, and here is one pic of the Global Illumination and one of the regular renderer, if you'll notice you can see the texturing on the engines better in the regular renderer, but the GI looks better anyway.
