Someone once told me their theory on how Anakin gets his wounds.

Akira Kirosawa has greatly inspired Lucas. If you don't believe me, there is a large thread on it somewhere around here.

Anyway, I believe Palpatine gives Anakin at least 75% his wounds. Anakin is to destroy Obi-Wan but lets him go ("You should not of come back"), thus Palpatine uses force lightning on him. But since Anakin is "the Chosen One," he survives. Palpatine sees Anakin's power and has him reconstructed. This would make Darth Vader forever Palpatine's slave because he fears him.

And in Return of the Jedi (which I watched last night) Vader sees his son going down the exact same path of test and torture. This drives him to the edge causing him to kill Palpatine and finally brings "balance" to the force. Therefore, he has completed his destiny and can no longer live, even with life support.

    Read this:

    http://www.theforce.net/swtc/injuries.html

It goes in to a great deal of medical detail about the injuries of Vader.

[face_plain] I really, really doubt Vader will fall into a volcano.

I like this theory and it would fit well. But I still think Obi-Wan will have something to do with his injuries.

"you should not have come back" We know both Obi-wan and Yoda went into hiding. I think Vader is just saying that he should have stayed hidden. That's all.

"When last we met, I was but the learner, now I am the master." Now that line I think is more idigative to him and Obi-Wan having a fight with Anakin loosing.

Possibly . . . but in AotC, Anakin seems to be a superior swordsman. The movie seemed to hint at that a lot.

In what way? Because I didn't see that at all. If anything I thought he was worse.

In what way? All the talk about him rivaling Obi-Wan and Yoda. And even in the end duel he seemed recless but superior.

All that talk about him rivaling Yoda came from Anakin's own mouth. That doesn't mean anything.

It seemed to me that in AOTC, Anakin swordplay was good, but not that good, lacking the experience that OB1 posseses.

But even Obi-Wan says that he is capable of rivaling Yoda. And Yoda's a fine fencer. :p

Anakin seems to be quite a good swordsman I agree, but I believe he doesn't have the finesse and calm to beat Obi-Wan. He showed he has the potential to be the greatest, since he went toe to toe with Dooku for a while, but ultimately his impatience led to his arm getting chopped off.

Anakin will be about 23-24 in the next film, while Obi-wan is somewhere around 35? I don't think Anakin will surpass Obi-wan in skill in 4 years. Maybe Anakin could rival Yoda after many many years of training... but Yoda is 800 years old, thats a lot of training compared to Anakin's 14. So, no I don't think Anakin will be as good as Yoda.

Also, I think Anakin/Vader's injuries are going to come from having to duel with all the remaining Jedi, not all from Palpatine. I think that would be a pretty rough task.

Anakin probably has more natural ability than Obi-Wan. That said, I think Obi-Wan can and will defeat Anakin in Ep. III. Talent isn't everything.

LUKE: Is the dark side stronger?

YODA: No...no...no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.

    :)
