    Please excuse this newbie question.

A friend of mine received a DVD screen cap of the Star Wars trilogy, made by someone from a laserdisc source.

    The picture appears squashed, horizontally.

Why is this the case? Is it an anamorphic DVD? Is it because its being played on a DVD-rom? Will it appear unsqashed on a regular TV or will that need a digital TV?

    Thanks in advance.

The aspect ratio is incorrect. It would not appear correctly on a normal tv.

the source was the laserdisc which isnt anamorphic so why is the picture squashed horizonatally?

I was wondering if it was an error he made while burning or if it would expand to the correct 2.35: 1
    by adjusting the DVD player?

I have a comparison shot. I can send it to you if you want. Can you advise me?

He probably exported incorrectly. If you can compensate on your dvd player, why don't you?
