ST Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) in the ST

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head here. It's less a desire to have encyclopedic lore info on the ST and more a desire to see some actually compelling motivation on the part of the antagonists and how it affected the heroes from the OT.

 

The dark side antagonists in the past have always been motivated by the same thing. The dark side.

Yeah, just read this. He's cheekily teased this in at least 4 interviews since TLJ was released. I'm now at the stage that I'm reasonably sure that there's something going on here. I think he'll be back either in Resistance, Favreau's show, or both.

 

Agreed, and I would say Resistance makes the most sense because of the amount of work/money it would take to recreate Snoke in live action. I'm very interested in seeing what the animated style will be for this series.

 

Still trying to figure out how Snoke got so powerful he could just toy with Rey and Kylo at this point. I wonder if it will be explained away with that dark side presence that Sidious felt coming from the unknown regions if it wasn't Snoke himself specifically.

 

Keep in mind they already have his character model as an asset they can reuse. They would have to record new dialogue if needed and do some facial capture if there were closeups of him speaking, but otherwise, they have that CG asset already built. They would just have to animate it if it required it. But, if he is just sitting and speaking like the Imperious Leader from the original Battlestar Galactica, they could just record new dialogue and reuse assets.

 

Yeah. And while I loved TLJ and Snoke in it, I can understand how many here were disappointed. And his backstory should be explained, and sooner than the backstory of 2 of my faves, Sids and Tyrs.

Not exactly news, but I was thinking back to early Snoke concepts that popped-up in online news stories before TFA. One of them showed a character design that was very different from everything we've seen singe: he was reptilian and almost dragon-like. Recently I wondered whether that was reported inaccurately, and instead of being concepts of Snoke those were some of the more alien concepts for Dryden Vos from Solo. But, it seems the answer was that neither of these options were correct.

Concept artist Dermot Powers recently updated his website with several more concept pieces from his work for TFA, including that reptilian concept we thought was Snoke. Powers says these are either background or unused characters, though I suppose it's possible that that is simply how the concept was eventually classified once Snoke's design changed. You can find that art piece on the right of the top row of "Characters and Costumes."

Not going to lie. At first I thought the bad lip reading folks had done Snoke singing this song when I saw the title.

 

Now, looking back at Snoke I really ask myself the question why they made Snoke such an expensive CGI character.
He was not spectacular at all. He did not look "alien" at all.
They could have simply used an actor with some make up.

 

Because they could?

 

Save a ton of time and money?
