First theme: Ben Skywalker. I suspect that I'll post a mix of my new stuff and old stuff on here. I'll put an asterisk* by something if I consider it to be old.

These are great angel_gidget in both the technique and the ideas. I find the scenes/ideas particularly adorable...especially the gift giving from Han...so adorable! It's such a great view of a different side of Han, not the scruffy looking nerfherder we all know and love but the soft, old grandpa. Love it! :D Oh and the annoyed expression on Jacen's face is priceless and Ben's daydreaming is very reminiscent of a young Luke so well done there!

I really like your take on Ben here, it's great to see more and more people offering up they're interpretations of what he will become. :) Great work and hope to see more in the near future!

Thanks, CR! I think you're right...Han is definitely ready to become a grandpa. Now if only Jacen would finally propose to Tenel Ka, or Jaina decide to settle down and finally decide which man to do it with. As for Ben, I recently got "Dark Nest: The Joiner King" and have started reading it. I skipped ahead to some of the parts with Ben in it. I suspect that I'll be even more inspired to sketch the youngest member of the Solo/Skywalker clan once I'm through with the book.

On the topic of drawings, I finally uploaded some of my older work. All of my stuff so far is before I had a definite indication of Ben's personality. Except for the Ben & Han pic. That one I drew after reading about when Toddler!Ben punches Han on the nose, and they instantly bond.

Welcome to Fan Art, angel_gidget! :D

Very nice renditions of Ben! The little bugger is slowly becoming one of my favorite EU characters - and I didn't even start reading the Joiner King yet. :p

I like the style you used in each drawing. It really matches his playful spirit nicely. I think my favorite one is the one of Han and Ben(big surprise there :p). I think it's cool how they managed to match these two up in the new series - you conveyed that quite nicely. :)

    Welcome to the board!

These remind me a lot of the more whimsical look of Disney characters. It's an interesting style and one I haven't really seen applied to Star Wars very often.

I like that you've created a whole series of images with the same theme, too. It kind of tells the story of the character throughout his life.

And he quote on the one where he's messing with his lightsaber made me chuckle ("Please don't let it be red...").

Very nice images of Ben, Angel_gidget! You've given him a real personality and the style is very distinct.

The first one with Mara and the one with Han are just fantastic [face_love]

This week's Theme is Revenge of the Sith. I wouldn't really consider any of these to be terribly old. I drew all of them after seeing the movie.

    Doh!!

I cannot believe I haven't left a reply in here before now!!
I took a look at your work when you first posted, and was just too busy then to leave a reply--but I'll try to be a regular in here from now on!

Many apologies, angel_gidget, and a warm welcome to Fan Art!

I really love your style, and your subject matter is, of course, one of my favs (EU...)! I concur with the comments left already about the wonderful personality you've managed to give to Ben, taking him from toddler-hood to his Jedi apprenticeship. I especially like the pictures of him with Mara, Han and with cousin Jaina (in her flightsuit--very cool!)--the "Little Lost Bantha Cub" book is a wonderful touch with Uncle Han (and so reminds me of all the stories I've read to my nieces and nephew!)! The depiction of Mara, tearing toward her son as he handles a carelessly-laid lightsaber reminds me of a beautiful viggie I read once called "Lightsabers and Lullabies" in Fan Fiction--the story included just such a scene!

The ROTS pieces are wonderful, as well--and I had a good laugh over "Some Days it Just Feels Like the Whole Galaxy is Against Me!" scene, with Anakin obviously in a purple-faced rage, and everyone around him feeling it! Poor Padme and Obi Wan! The actual "meltdown" on Mustafar in the movie made me blubber like a baby (bye-bye Anakin, hello Darth Vader... :_| ), but your picture has an element of fun to it. And Padme and Anakin together, with the jappor snippet swinging from Padme's fingers made me misty--doomed lovers usually do that! sniff

Your linework and coloring are just beautiful, and there's a wonderful sense of cohesiveness to all of your images--great compositons, and quotes well-chosen for each scene. Lovely work all around, and looking forward to more! Again--sorry for not commenting earlier--your stuff is wonderful!

Now for replies...(don't know if I'll do this everytime, but might as well make a good 1st impression)

HanSolo29--I'm still reading "Joiner King", and I'm loving every bit of it! Ben is quickly becoming one of my favorite EU characters, right up there with Jacen and Tenel Ka. (I'll be doing their theme very soon.)

wicktone--I love being compared to Disney! Those movies greatly inspire my style along with dozens of miscellaneous comic books. As for "Please don't let it be red...", I think I read a fanfic once about Ben building a lightsaber and remembering all the things that went wrong with his earlier attempts to build one. I don't remember how the story ended, but the part about a red lightsaber that he discarded inspired the pic.

JadeLotus--Thanks! I'm especially happy with my Ben & Han pic. I'm gonna have to try really hard to surpass myself now.

FalconFan--Wow! Where to begin? You sure know how to leave an ego-boosting review. I guess I should itemize things and hope I don't miss anything.

    1. It's a cool/funky feeling to know that I have a potential regular. Makes me feel like posting again.

    2. Appologies accepted, and none really needed.

    3. Good to hear that you like EU! I'll probably be alternating between EU and The Saga of the two trillogies.

    4. Given all the times that Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin made Han read "The Little Lost Bantha Cub" to them, it wouldn't shock me if it became Ben Skywalker's favorite as well.

    5. I read "Lightsabers & Lullaies" shortly after drawing that pic and was struck by the irony. That fic tickled my funny/angsty bone.

    6. I didn't really melt so much as internally squeeled like a brain-dead fangirl thoughout the whole film. I think I was in a slightly sour mood when I started drawing the "Galaxy against Me" pic, but drawing it made me feel better.

    7. Gotta have omg!angsty!romance!luv pics for my doomed lovers. Otherwise it just wouldn't be proper, and it's against my programming to neglect such a necessity. (Now exiting C-3P0 mode...)

    8. Thanks especially for the coloring comment. Coloring is something I'm never totally sure on. I don't really plan it so much as hope that this goes okay with this and that this color will really compliment that. I'm not color-blind, but I am a fashion victim from time to time, and it's nice to know I'm not doing a totally botched job.

Hope to hear from ya'll soon...next post!

Hi angel_gidget , I don't think I've seen your thread before. Your drawings are very cool, you've got a really nice manga style going for you, but the way you juxtapose them against your choice of backgrounds is what really makes them unique. Skywalker Family Nightmare is both cool and freaky, with two nicely drawn characters (love the drawing of Mara, great pose) pasted over a photo-realistic background, the Padme/Anakin pictures have very interesting backdrops (skysenatr especialy), while I like the picture of Obi-Wan, Anakin and Palpatine simply for the drawing. I look forward to seeing more work from you.

Ooo! You'll be doing Jacen and Tenel Ka soon? I can't wait to see those! :D

But for now, onto your ROTS update - the first thing I want to comment on is the seemingly fast pace that you appear to pump these things out. Were any of these older pieces like with the 'Ben Update' or are they all new? If they are new, wow! You're good! My favorite ones out of the bunch are the last three Anakin/Padme ones. I tend to flock more to the realistic stuff and these three stand out to me. They still have that great animated feel, but yet you've managed to really capture the likeness of the characters here. To echo wick's words here, they look a lot like Disney characters. ;)

    Great update! :D

Another great batch of stuff. Of this group, I think the first one is my favorite. In the movie, hearing Anakin defending R2-D2 and essentially treating him like treasured friend was sort of surprising and I liked the idea a lot. This image really captures that, even though R2 isn't actually pictured. It's a great take on that 'ray shields' scene (complete with Obi-Wan's unamused look).

Your 'romantic' pictures are very well-done. They all have an element of melancholy when looking at them, since you know how they end up. It just makes the happy moments you portrayed all the more bittersweet...

Great collection of work angel_gidget! :D I like how you theme your work...it's nice having a little revelry in similar themed work sometimes isn't it! And sometimes one picture just isn't enough to get it out of your system is it? :)

My favourites would have to be the romantic ones! *blushes and hides* Yeah I know but I'm feeling in a mushy mood. :D Great work on all of them though...the amount of work you do is simply amazing! :) Well done!

soitscometothis--Thanks! I plan to post more very soon!

HanSolo29--If it's "old" I drew it a long time ago, as in, maybe a year or so ago...or maybe a few months ago. If it's "new" it may have been drawn one month ago or yesterday. "Old" and "New" mostly has to do with the style of the drawing. If I feel it's a good indication of my current style, it's "current" or "new". If not, it's "old". I don't normally spend more than a day on a single piece. If I do, it's because I drew it one day, and colored it another.

wicktone--Funny thing is, I wasn't even thinking about that tone of meloncholy when I drew them. It just sort of...happened.

Corellian_Rogue--No need to hide! You're right. Sometimes one drawing just isn't enough...as will be the case with my next post. ^_^

I so enjoy your style, angel_gidget! It's so unique and so colorful!

Your latest series of pieces are just as wonderful as the previous: I really like the bold use of line and color, and the way you've rendered the characters in many situations. It gives us insight into those characters and their interaction, even without having been introduced to them before. (I myself love Jacen and TK, and have read all the novels, so it's really wonderful to see them depicted with such variety and detail--a lot of these are scenes right out of the books!) You really have a distinctive style that's great to look at--keep up the great work!

angel_gidget, excellent job all around! The Tenel Ka/Jacen update was really great. I would definitely like to see those two hook up eventually and you did a nice job capturing their feelings and their friendship for each other.

I also really liked to see the process pics you posted. I always like to see what an artist has to go through to come to their finished piece. It seems like the key to your work is how you situate the lighting in each one. ;)

As for the Joiner King update - I didn't really look at them as closely as the other because I'm still reading the book, but I have to say that the Kyp/Jaina one is definitely my favorite. :D

Wow, great work! I really like your style - it has a very distinctive feel to it. Loved the Ben Skywalker pics you started out with, the way you showed his relationship with the different members of his family. Beautiful work as well on the PT pics and the NJO-era ones. The edge you give Jacen is great - there would have to be something like that there, given all he's been through. I also really liked the way you show Zekk and Jaina's connection through the pictures in the most recent update. Very nicely done all round! :D

Jedi_Commander_Faofa -- My style is inspired by both Japanese comic books/animation (manga/anime) and American comic books/animation.

-Tenel-Ka- -- I love hearing art reviews from you! I guess I should post more of my stuff and "Kriff This" but I forget sometimes that it's an NJO forum and not just a J/TK forum. ^_~

FalconFan-- Every once in a while I go into a heavy J/TK phase. I both write and draw, but only the drawings ever get finished. The fanfics just rot on my computer. At any rate, I'm currently inspired by The Joiner King. I tend to draw the characters from the images the books create in my mind.

Valie-- Thank you! I really liked Jaina and Zekk in the YJK books and was sorry to see them grow apart in the NJO.

SilSolo-- Well, I'm still drawing away! So you should get another post soon!

HanSolo29-- I'm glad you like the process pics, but the drawings before you are not Kyp/Jaina. I'll be posting those later. I like J/K and J/Z. I'm still trying to get my head around the concept of J/J. Jag Fell is growing on me, but veeerrryyy sloooowwwwllly.

Knight_Aragorn -- Thank you all around. I feel that Jacen is a character with an edge, so he should be drawn that way.
