    Is it a continuity error that the Death Star power station which Obi-Wan deactivates in A New Hope is labeled with English words?
    (Shouldn't they be in their Aurebesh equivalent letters?)

    It's pretty well accepted that Lucas fixed it on the DVDs

    Yeah, that really ruined it for me.

    It's hard for me to enjoy the realistic aspects of the movie like lightsabers and wookies with those blasted english letters popping up like that and ruining the realism. 8-}

    Possibly an error- or there just happens to be a non-standard alphabet that is quite similar to english. (which makes sense, given the various lettered starfighter names, A-WIng, B-Wing, X-Wing, etc)

    Kinda like how some electronic equipment will have labels in multiple languages.

    It's not an error. It's there so you know what it is.

    Seriously, this isn't rocket science.

    Why not have English letters on some of the controls? Most of the characters speak in English. We can understand the spoken language, why not the written language, too?

    really... if the people watching the movie cant read it and dont know what it is then it would be kinda confusing and we would be all lost, not really an error, i mean they had to make the set, do you think they would just screw up. it took a long time to build the set. its not like the fx guy just put it in english not knowingly.

    >>Most of the characters speak in English. We can understand the spoken language, why not the written language, too?<<

    It's possible they aren't "actually" speaking english- like Hunt For Red October, hwere they are actually speaking russian, though we are hearing it translated for us into english.

    Yeah really. Obiwon said he was going to power down the tractor beam. English words or not, you get the idea of what he's doing. I hope it is changed in the DVD.

    Maybe it's "Made in Wyoming" or some other crappy backwater planet and they slapped their prehistoric nonsense letters onto the tractor beam, instead of civilised Aurabesh.

    Technically speaking, the continuity error is the use of Aurabesh after ANH...

    ;)

    Anyone have a screen shot of this? I've heard about this for years, but I never think to look for it when I watch.
