Well, LDV, there was 2001: A Space Odyssey (that's not spelled right, is it?). It was pretty good.

Howdy, Red 10 doing a fly threw. So we have an official site now? Groovey. Well, I'm only swinging in for a few minutes, but while I'm hear, I wish to invite anyone who is interested to join the "Objective" TPM Defense Force (thread on the Phantom Menace page). It's my attempt to open a forum for discussing EI without everything turning into gusher vs. basher. We'll see how well it works.

As for why ANH was so popular, I remember my Dad telling me about going to see it with his friends...He said they went expecting to see the usual SciFi movie, the Flash Gordon-ey kind of thing that all SciFi movies were back then. They didn't have a very large audience, 'cause they were kinda hokey. Cowboys in space, more or less. He said that after the opening crawl, when they saw the SD reveal across the screen, there was an immediate "Whoah!" reaction from all of them. They knew this was something different...

i'm a girl.... uh yea.... but i wasnt exactly alive in the 70s so i wouldn't really know. IMHO though, it must have been because the movie was ahead of its time with the secial effects

    Red 10 in.

Yes, it was ahead of it's time. Effects during the eighties were patterned after SW/ESB.

    Red 10 in.

Hey, how many posts do I need to stop being a civilian? (isn't that how the ranking works?). It seems kind of wrong for me, Red 10, hero of Yavin 4 (come on, we all know Red 10 made the most difference in that battle), to be a civilian.

And could someone tell me how to add a smiley face to my posts?

Yes. I too had noticed the Yahoo smiley thingy. Yes.
I think they are watching us - the smileys. They work for Yahoo... and they are watching us with their beady eyes... yes.
