Red 2 here. Just saying hi. I've been in and out of the Rim for the past week and a half, and am just now reporting in.

 

Red 10 in. How's it going? Anyone had to defend ANH recently?

i did the other day some guy told me ANH was the dumbest thing since star wars i just laughed

 

I feel that it is my duty, nay, resonpsibility to join and defend one of the greatest American movies of all time.

 

I like this guy. Gonzonaut, if you're ever in the Denver area, I'll buy you a drink.

BTW, there were some TPM gushers over in that forum who were bashing ANH the other day. They claimed the plot was too simple for the newer, more modern version of SW films. I took them out back and taught them a lesson.










No seriously, I did give them a tongue lashing though.

KINDA NIFTY AINT IT?

 

I wasn't too excited by the name. In fact, I was angry. i didnt' think I could express y thoughts without an excessive and grotesque use of profanity. Then, when I told it to my circle of Star Wars friends, I couldn't stop laughing at the title. It is grotesquely pulp-nificent. Obviously, Lucas is infulenced by ye olde pulpe style, but this, I think is too far. What makes Star wars so great is that it trancsends the average pulp sci-fi genre. It's not sci-fi, I alwys argue, it's even beyond pulp fantasy. It is an epic. It is mythology. This title is way too worldly for myself. Couldn't it have been something simple like "The Clone Wars?"

I think the Star Wars films with the best titles are ANH and ROTJ. ANH, because it is the most free from pulp-nificence. The title ROTJ could be touched by pulp, but in the context of the saga, it's great and works to bring some closure. That was my problem wiht the Phantom Menace's title. I think TPM's title should have implied that it was the begging of the saga.

Of course, the dissension over the title is absurd.

People will complain in a manner similar to my own about the pulp-nicity of Episode II's title. However, I think we all need to reflect of the pulp-nificence of the name of the entire saga : "Star Wars." More so than any other title Lucas could think of, this one would still reak the most of pulp. When you think about it, it is a silly title with very little actual relevance to the saga, but, man can you market a film named Star Wars. The title warrants no respect and screams "I am a worthless sci-fi flick made because somebody wants a new boat." Yet, do we actually like Star Wars less because of it's title? Such will be the tale of Attack of the Clones.

My thoughts in a nutshell:
Bad title, but no worse than "Star Wars."
