    Whilst this pic was taken in captivity, I do encouter these critters when i'm out and about caving:

    [image=http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c76/DanielRobertson/DSCN1519.jpg]

    Mind you they look all nice and cuddly, but ther are not. They are like moose when it comes to traffic (Can total a semi), and are dangerous when provoked. I ended up face-to-face with one in a cave once... I back right out the way when I realised what I was looking at :eek:

    It looks like a wombat. What is it?

    About no more than 3 foot long, and a foot and a bit tall.

    Think: Mobile wheel chucks. Get one under yours and you are in for a world of hurt.

    EDIT: 'Tis a Wombat TBF.

    Ohhh, I didn't think it looked even that big. I was thinking small and cuddly, like a squirrel.

    Anywho...we have a lot of squirrels around my campus...I'll have to go take some pictures. They're very, well, crazy: they'll lurk along the side of the pathways then suddenly dart across in front of you like little maniacs. We also have black ones (or one black one that appears everywhere).

    We got lots of Turkeys and the occassional black bear.

    And once I actually saw a skunk. NOt smelled one but saw one under the house. First time I ever saw a skunk in the city.

    Pademelons (a type of small kangaroo) like to graze on the grass around early evening. It's really hard to see, but there IS smething there. It helps if you zoom in.

    I zoomed in, but still didn't see anything. Is it perhaps the lights that might be it's eyes shining in the dark? Just in the shadows to not be seen?

    His eyes can be seen. He's in the centre of the photo, just off to the right.

    Ran into more of these last night...

    [image=http://mnhc.ucsc.edu/NH%20Guide%20Images/large%20raccoon.jpg]

    Little devils aren't being afraid of us anymore. We actually had a standoff where I had to go the long way since they wouldn't move.

    So, my Mum turns up at my place last night after a long flight (up in my city for her latest grandchild birth (via my brother and his wife) and for a funeral of an uncle).

    I hear the car pull up, so open the front door... and this rather large and beautiful frog leaps in from the front porch and hops around the lounge. Thought for a second a witch must have put a hex on Mum, but no, Mum was still getting out of the car.

    Anyway we caught it and put it in an aquarium so the kids could see it today. I'll let it go tomorrow, but here's my daughter holding the lovely creature.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/frog.jpg]

    I used to go catching frogs when I was a kid, had pet frogs for years, but never did I have one leap through my front door on its own accord.

    I can barely see him, but he's there. He's a tiny fella, isn't he?

    This little guy appeared last night. I talked to him for about 20 minutes. He was either really interested in what I had to say, or was scared out of his mind.

    He will report what you told him back to his people, and the information will either be used to foster a cultural understanding, or form the basis of invasion plans.

    Wow! You're really into wildlife and exploring. My husband would love you! Nice frog, btw. The most exotic thing we found here was a praying mantis. I'd really like to see a cougar in my yard, just not when we're out there, or not when the housecats are out there :D Cougars are sweet.

    What's your husband's a/s/l?

    :p

    I caught a magnificent katydid yesterday, showed the kids and put it on a tree, but by the time I'd found the camera and cleared the photos off the memory stick to get some snaps for this thread, the darn critter had flown away.

    Hate those possums, Fish. They're a real pest in New Zealand. They were introduced a hundred or so years ago for the fur trade, but as there are no natural enemies thir population spiralled, they're really distructive to native flora & fauna.

    Yeah they have all kinds of strange critters where my husbands from (the Piney Woods of SE Texas). He misses the wildlife and nature in more sterile cities, so basically he just wanders around like a little kid :)

    Sorry to hear that. They're natural here, so they fit right in. Although, people still find them annoying for some reason. :confused:

    I just discovered a family of Ringtail Possums! A mother with two babies. No pics yet.

    What you failed to hear, TBF, is that in his own language, he was saying "All Your Base Are Belong To Us."

    You've doomed us all. :(

    It looks like it's touching itself. What exactly were you saying to it?

    That frog looks amazing, by the way.
