    We've decided to call it, "Steve". I think it may be a girl, though.

    I was walking through the kitchen around midnight last night and totally by chance I spotted a big spider outside the window, so I turned on the outside light to take a closer look and suddenly spotted a huge fox in the garden. :eek:

    I went upstairs to take a better look, and there were two of them, a fox and a vixen probably. One of them was huge, one was smaller. I managed to get a quick shot in, this was about as good as I was going to get it.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v674/zacparis/scraps/19-10-2007.jpg]

    I've seen foxes out on country roads in the middle of the night before, but I've never seen one so close as last night. :D

    Are there any fox experts here? Is it normal to see two of them in the middle of a suburban town? [face_thinking]

    Back at my parents house you don't get any animals in your backyard except your average housepet. Then I moved up to Oregon. We get squirrels. That's about it. That's pretty common though.

    The squirrels are strange though, they roam city streets. (I've never seen anything like it!) :p I was walking with a few of my friends in downtown Portland and this squirrel darted between my feet and ran around them a few times. It was like it was dancing (it probably thought I was a tree. :( ). It darted off after that. *still feels used over the whole ordeal*

    I wish more animals visited my backyard...

    Well, I guess back in Phx. we got snakes now that I think about it. On occassion. That's always a scary time. :p

    I got home from school one time and there was a huge black pig in my yard with a baby pig.

    we called the animal control and they came and took them away...but geesh...

    I spotted two lovely goldfinches feasting on my unmowed back-lawn today!

    Unfortunately the photos are terrible.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/gold1.jpg] [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/gold2.jpg]

    But this is what they look like when photographed properly;

    Took a couple of photos of some birds sitting on the powerlines outside my house. Unfortunately my camera is crap, so I've added an inset of someone else's decent photos of these 2 species.

    Firstly, the Shining Cuckoo. A migratory bird that comes here to breed in the spring. It heads off to the Solomon Islands and other Pacific Islands for the winter.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/wildlife/shiningcukoo.jpg]

    And secondly the rather lovely Kingfisher.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/wildlife/kingfisher.jpg]

    Both these birds are also found in Australia.

    I saw a raccoon for the first time last week, I almost ran over it. :p

    I always get excited whenever I see wildlife lol. I grew up in Chicago, so I've led a sheltered wildlife life until the past few years.

    Last week on my way to work I saw six turkeys crossing a suburban street into someone's driveway. I was like "what."

    Here's my daughter holding a cute little Stick-Insect that I think came in on the Christmas Tree;

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/si1.jpg]

    And here's a Monarch Butterfly - they're presently laying eggs on our Swan Plants.

    Since our flaxes started flowering, we've had lots of visits from the native Tui (pr. too-eee) eating the nectar from the flowers.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tui_(bird)

    Beautiful birds - the iridescent sheen isn't so noticeable in the photos, unfortunately. They're about 30-35cm long and have a distinctive whirring wing sound in flight.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/tui1.jpg]

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/tui2.jpg]

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/jaepee/tui3.jpg]

    They have a lovely song too, though about half of it is above human hearing range. You can see them singing away with their distinctive white throat feather bobbing around, but half the time can't hear a note.

    Don't have much interesting wildlife here in the UK, but here is something rather unusual, an Albino Squirrel I saw a few years back

    This bumblebee flew into the house, it was huge (almost 2" from head to tail)
