    Let me put it to rest then, so I can lock this.

    For the forseeable future we're not going to go with animated icons because of the increased size they have (between 5 and 10 times that of normal icons on average) leading to increased loading times, the distraction that they can be on the side of the page, and the fact that there aren't all that many that fit with these boards. As an example of what I mean, IGN has over 10,000 icons, and less than 100 of these are animated, yet they cover every subject under the sun. There aren't that many SW animated icons out there, or possible ones, that are of a decent enough quality to use.
