It's been a little while since I've been here, and I hope that this is okay to share. This has been under wraps until now; contracts have been signed, and it's now all official: I'm going to be editing a military science fiction anthology called War Stories! We just signed with Apex Publications, an indie press that's published some pretty excellent stuff, and we're going to be doing a funding campaign through Kickstarter, later this September. I'm pretty excited about this. A year or so ago, I worked on an anthology called Armored, which came out well, and a friend of mine and I started chatting and decided that we wanted to do one of our own. So, we've spent the better part of a year lining up authors, figuring out a plan and publisher, and we're announcing the project today. We've got some very cool authors lined up for this: Joe Haldeman, who wrote the Forever War, Karin Lowachee, Mike Stackpole, and a bunch of others. Here's the release: I'm going to try and avoid carpet-bombing people with news about this over the next couple of months - right now, we're just trying to get people interested in what this'll be. I'm optimistic that we'll do well, and already, we have some kick-ass stories lined up. I can't wait to see them out in the world.
Congrats. But please be careful. This thread rides the thin line between announcing accomplishments and spamvertising.
Congrats! Thought this was going to be a thread about War Stories amongst JCers non fictional....oops
I hate Joe Haldeman more than 85% of Congressional Republicans. He is behind the single worst experience I ever had reading a book in my whole life.
I'm mildly fond of Zora Neale Hurston. I would read her every day over anything by Joe Haldeman. His particular crime is the sequel to Forever War--which I didn't find particularly impressive to begin with--entitled Forever Peace. The premise of the full length novel was an investigation of a planet whose entire populace had gone missing. The abrupt climax revealed that they were all stuffed into a barn silo. Naked. As a practical joke.
Congrats random stranger on your life accomplishment! I look forward to not contributing to your kickstarter.
