JCC Annoying language

"Squad"

 

Arbitrary restrictions on language based on personal preference. Willing closure of the door on the iron structure. Also "knick-knack."

 

Incomplete sentences punctuated as if. Do that all the time myself. But am really contrite about it.

 

The abuse of the word "blatantly" by young folk from the South East of England.

 

That annoys me so much. It happens in Dutch, too.
I always wonder why people do it. It can't be because it's too much work to type "I".

 

It's the smartphone effect combined with the viral nature of language usage. There's a premium on efficiency when thumb-typing, and the "I" isn't really needed to communicate the message. These shortcuts then infect all other written communication, even when it doesn't take place over an iphone.

 

Well it sounds like an order. This isn't Spanish.

That's from an old Japanese video game that was haphazardly translated when it was localized for Western release. Someone somewhere found it funny and uploaded a video of it, and it quickly spread. It was never actual slang. Of course, as with all slightly amusing things that enter pop culture, it was repeated ad nauseam... Like when through all of 2006 people would affirm appreciation for any minuscule thing with a Borat "is nice" impression.
