Alright everybody, here's the date you've all been waiting to find out about. This years annual CF Summer BBQ will be held on Saturday July 12th. As a bonus we will be combining it with the Beer Club's July meeting! So for members of our ever expanding Beer Club be sure and bring a sixer of something summery for show and tell! It seems to be a big grey area, but as this is a public park and I can't find specific rules pertaining to the non-permit parks, let's make sure we keep the liquor in coolers to avoid any "imperial entanglements".

This years BBQ will be held at :

Centennial Park in Orland Park, IL.
    http://www.orland-park.il.us/index.asp?NID=112

The facilities have built in bean bag games, and we are mere paces from the lake with a pier right next to our BBQ gazebo. There are also bike paths, baseball diamonds, an aquatic center, etc. WE will also have our usual slew of games/entertainment.

Feel free to come any time of day you wish. This park doesn't require permits for picnics, only that we stake claim to our spot, so a few of us will be arriving early on the day of to "plant our flag" so to speak. But I expect most of our members will begin arriving anytime after 2-3 pm. The park is extremely easy to get to, being only a few blocks from Lagrange Rd, and Orland Mall with plenty of bus activity in the vicinity. We will be setting up in Picnic Area #3, which is at the end of Fun Drive on the left. We're just to the left of the baseball diamonds. More precise directions can be found in the link above.

All I ask is that for those of you car-pooling with other CF'ers please be considerate enough to inform them if you have a specific time that you must return. It's not fair to automatically expect other people to serve your scheduling needs and deny themselves the enjoyment of hanging with friends for an evening! WORK IT OUT IN ADVANCE, NOT THE DAY OF!!!

Please post here or our other forum to inform us of what foods/snacks/drinks/supplies you'll be bringing, to avoid any potato chip avalanches or dry mouth palettes.

Hope to see you all there...It's gonna be a great time!!!!

Hmmm, this seems familiar. I actually like this thread better as it has the date right in the subject line.

I can't wait for this year's picnic. I wonder if Lionel will bring bocce ball again.

I will bring, soda, veggies and one item to be named after I can think of a good item to bring.

    Any suggestions on the soda?

Who is all in on this event? A head count would be helpful.

I drove past the picnic area yesterday, just to see what ideas occurred to me. One thought I had was taking my (one and four year old) girls to the water-park there, and dropping by the picnic afterwards around the 3 o'clock hour.

This raises the question: who else is bringing younglings?
I ask because the easiest thing to do is get a sitter for the girls, espescially if they would be the only kids at the event. I had to blow off the movie/put-put for lack of a babysitter, so I'm also a bit gun-shy of relying on a teenager to protect my social calendar. Thoughts?

My 5 year-old stepson will be there, and most of us act like giant kids, so there shouldn't be a problem.

Well, on a different thread, I had presented myself as a hopeful attender,
    and
on this thread I am listed as a possible,

I must report that due to circumstances beyond my control,

    ____I can attend[face_laugh]

Rain or shine, I will be there!

Here is my attempt with a map of the park to help us all locate each other,
    or
try not to get stuck on the other side of the lake:)

I can help with the not getting lost in the park bit.

You can only get in one way by car...Fun Drive ("Two men enter...One man leave!" LOL)
When you enter on Fun Drive you'll come to your first stop sign...Go straight through it. You're next stop will be a 3-way stop...Turn left and we'll be at the end of the ballparks in the pavillion. Next to the dock and the lake and the bean bags. We'll pretty much probably have the parking area there all to ourselves unless there is some ballgame going on in the vicinity.

See you guys Saturday! I'll be there reallllllllly early.

What a fun time to just hang out with everyone.

Sorry to arrive a little late (3:15?)
stuck around for about 5-hours, including
    the CF air force fly-by
and close formation turn right over our heads!

____wonder close they are when you can almost see the pilot......

just know that they were really really close.

sorry to forget a CD of pics for Obi-Wan,
and also I meant to bring a camera so I could post some pics,
of what many of us agreed, is a really good place for
    next years event.

Hope some nice person on their way to New York,
can help Lionel post some photo-s of his
    most amazing "paint-ball TANK"

Hope to make a book club soon,

    and

as always, am always looking for a way
to attend/support any CF events or activites.

That was cool time, we'll see how motivated I can get for future events. Stuff out here in my neighborhood, well, there's just no acceptable excuse not to go.

Glad to meet you all, next time I'm taking notes and putting faces to the screen-names...
