I've read most of the EU books (but this was as of a few years ago), and I enjoyed them until I came here. Once here, sticking mostly at first to the movie forums, the debates there got me to think about it more, and I became anti-EU. However, in my boredness, I am considering reading some more of it. What would you recommend I start with? What books should I read? List as many as you like, I'm fast reader. :)

Read the Thrawn Trilogy, very important in understanding events.

    NJO-Vector Prime-first book
    NJO-Onslought-second
    ruin-trhird
    heros trial-forth
    figure it from there(its easy)

How much time did you spend structuring this topic title to provoke EU fans into posting? ;)

There are no prerequisite for the Thrawn trilogy, if that's what you want to read, because it was an early novel and didn't use much source material. Are you sure you're not referring to the more recent Hand of Thrawn duology?

Yes MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! And no, this isn't a trick. And there's no guarantee I'll change sides, however, I'm bored, so I figure it's worth one more shot, even if it does end up to be just killing time. Who knows, I might actually.....::gasp:: enjoy it!

I meant the Thrawn trilogy, but I should also read Hand of Thrawn? Is that from that duology?

Do you like Lumi, Lumi? Because if you don't this is what I'll be calling you from now on. :p

So...read the Thrawn books (I'm assuming these are Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, Last COmmand) and the Duology Specter of th ePast and Vision of the Future, right? I looked it up on a website and I didn't see a Hand of Thrawn.

NJO was first meant to be easy to understand with no other EU experiance needed. It is nicer if you've read about the origins of some of the characters (Mara, Corran, the Solo kids), but its not needed.

Just pick up Vector Prime and go from there. NJO is meant to work as a stand alone.

Must-reads...These form the basis of the best of the EU. If you don't like one, don't read the rest in the series.

    The Rebellion Era

    - The Han Solo Adventures 3-in-1 paperback
    - The Han Solo Trilogy ( The Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn )
    - Classic Star Wars comic series
    - Tales From... series ( Cantina, Bounty Hunters, Jabba's Palace, Empire, New Republic )

    New Republic Era

    - Thrawn trilogy ( Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command )
    - The X-wing series ( start with Rogue Squadron and Wedge's Gamble. For me personally, things picked up on book 2. )
    - Dark Empire comic collection ( rare, try Amazon.com )
    - The Jedi Academy Trilogy ( You seem to hate Anderson, but this trilogy set up important stuff )
    - The Hand of Thrawn Duology ( controversial on quality, but sets up the later NJO stories. )

    Old Republic Era

    - Tales of the Jedi comic series ( About 34 issues total, covering over 1000 years )

    Rise of the Empire Era

    - Cloak of Deception
    - Darth Maul - Shadow Hunter
    - Ongoing comics ( try Infinity's End, Twilight, Outlander, Darkness or the new Stark Hyperspace War. )

    The New Jedi Order Era

These can all be read in order...

    Vector Prime, Onslaught, Ruin etc...

Actually, you've been poisoned. Best not to read any of the EU because most like'ly non of it will suit your new more refined taste.

    It's too Sci Fi.

It lacks all of the mythic qualities the films have.

It has annoying characters with dumb names.

The authors are trying to make their characters better then GL's.

It explains too much.Leaves nothing to the imagination.

    It dilutes the SWs saga.

It has too many continuity flubs.

    The books are poorly written.

Best that you stay away from the EU.Those preconcieved notions will make you hate any EU book you read anyways. Then you'll have something to tell EU bashers about.

Stay away from EU and wait until AotCs comes out.

I don't think that's true, I've seen TPM bashers repent in my time, I've seen gushers repent, and if people can't change their opinions about THAT (either you love it or hate it), then I think I can handle this.

I say, do what you want. If you want to get back into EU, then read away.

If you haven't read the Thrawn Trilogy then do so. The NJO should be read, but Vision of the Future and Spectre of the past should be read before.
